Default Is there an RPO code for a Formula?

I was wondering if any of these RPO codes mean the car is a Formula? I figured it might not have a code since it's a "base" Firebird, but then again it's an LS1 Firebird, not a V6, so there could be a code for it. Anyone know the deal? Thanks.

Hmmmm. I thought it was W66 . So what does W66 mean if WS9 means Formula?

Just Googled and found WS9 and W66 both mean Formula. WS9 is the model conversion code (from a V-6 I assume), and W66 is a merchandised package .....whatever that means.

It's both

WS9 : MODEL CONVERSION, FORMULA
W66 : MERCHANDISED PKG, FORMULA

I haven't been able to find anything saying what the difference is between the two RPO codes, though ... Here's what I think:

WS9 is for the powertrain/suspension build-up from base Firebird to Formula with V8, and W66 is for the additions to appearance/accessories for the Formula.

Looks like the WS9 equivalent for the Trans Am is
WS4 : MODEL CONVERSION, TRANS AM

So it's the 'Model Conversion' code that's most important

Here's some other Firebird 'Merchandised Package' ones:

W68 : MERCHANDISED PKG, FIREBIRD, SPORT APPEARANCE
Y81 : MERCHANDISED PKG, FIREBIRD
Y82 : MERCHANDISED PKG, TRANS AM
Y83 : MERCHANDISED PKG, TRANS AM GT
Y84 : MERCHANDISED PKG, GTA, TRANS AM
Y89 : MERCHANDISED PKG, FIREBIRD SE

It'd be nice to know exactly what is included in each of these packages ... Like this site has for 2nd-gen codes (not any help for 4th-gen): http://www.firebirdtransamparts.com/...ingo/bingo.htm

Firehawk codes:
B4U : 1991-1992 Firehawk option
R6V : 1993-1997 Formula Firehawk option
R6Z : Canadian Firehawk option
WU6 : SALES PACKAGE, 1999-2002 FIREHAWK UPFITTER (no Firehawks officially in 1998)

PS: This thread would belong better in the Firebird section instead of the Lounge...

Thanks for the info ACW. So if I was going to have a custom plate "LS1 WS9" would basically be saying LS1 Formula? More accurate then "LS1 W66" right?

I think so, as best as I can tell from the RPO alphabet-soup

uhm, yes it does. lol. your ta has it, because your ta started off as a formula. so pretty much every ls1 pontiac fbody will have that rpo. a formula has it, because it is the Model Conversion from a firebird to a formula. a ta will have it because its converted even further from a formula to a ta, and so on and so forth for firehawks...

The Trans Am GTA was offered from 1987 to 1992. Check out the 'Firebird Models' link in my sig for details

Because Y84 has been used for four different things in different time periods

PHP Code:
RPO    Start    End    Meaning
Y84    1976    1981    Trans Am
Special Edition
Y84    1982    1985    Merchandised Pkg
Trans Am Recaro Edition (1982-1985)
Y84    1987    1992    Merchandised PkgTrans Am GTA (1987-1992)
Y84    1993    2002    Merchandised PkgTrans Am

There's a sticker on the doorjamb. With a bunch of three-character codes listed on it. If one of those codes is 'WS6', you have a WS6.
