2000 formula question
hey guys
quick couple of questions for you experts.
okay now I'm looking at a 2000 formula and I was wondering what it would have stock? how does it compare to a WS6 or a TA? about how much would one with 15,000 miles go for in really good condition. anythign I should be worried about? what's the HP rating?

Re: 2000 formula question
The Trans Am is just an appearance package. A Trans Am is basically a Formula with a bigger wing, side skirts, and a different set of bumper covers. Internally, they are identical. The Trans Am comes standard with T-tops and leather, but those are optional on a Formula. Other than that, there is no differences between them.
Formulas are also more rare. Only about 2,000 per year produced, compared to around 17,000 Trans Ams per year. Even more rare than SS Camaros, at around 8,000 per year.

Re: 2000 formula question
I agree with Nine Ball. With 15,000 Miles on average you'll be paying roughly $21,000 for a Formula or Reg. TA. There really isn't anything to worry about, however if you ever want the high rise TA rear spoiler you'd have to replace the Formula hatch with one from a TA. HP wise it should be 305 or 310 hp and with WS6 Ram Air, and Air box it should be 320 or 325hp.

Re: 2000 formula question
my 2000 Formula had 10,200 miles on it when I bought it in August 2001 for 19,000. Was rated at 305 hp, just make sure it has the performance package, otherwise you're looking at a 2.73 gear and a 108 mph limiter (nothing a hypertech can't fix ) Mine was loaded with everything except leather and it's an auto. I like the Formulas better than the T/A's b/c less weight, a little more sleepy looking, and I like the smaller rear wing. Just my $.02 Good luck!

Re: 2000 formula question
If it isn't a 6speed make sure it has the 3.23 rear (GU5). If it doesn't talk them down a little. Do you want TTops? I didn't so I told them I did and talked them down a little. How is the paint? If it is a dark color and it has swirl marks, point out how the car hasn't been taken car of. Look for everything. Are the body pannels all lined up? AC works? Is it all stock? If it has modifications - it has been driven hard. Period! Still under warranty? Tire condition? Interior condition? Check the ash tray and see if it is a smokers car. Look under the ashtray. Dealer or individual? We need more info!

Re: 2000 formula question
I used to dislike the Formula styling until I bought one, now I kind of prefer the Formula. They're a little lighter. Mine has cloth seats which I like. It has the options I do want though such as T-tops, Monsoon sound, and the GU5 option that gives you 3.23 gears and the aluminum driveshaft. I heard most Formulas had the 2.73's so I guess a Formula with 3.23's is kind of rare. I flew from Washington, DC to Chicago to buy the one I have now and I have no regrets. Try finding a black on black Formula with the GU5 option...it's really difficult unless you're willing to travel.

I had a 2000 T/A with 2.73's and there was no 108mph limiter . And the 2.73's are the only ones with a heavy *** steel driveshaft.

Re: 2000 formula question
The Formula is a nice balance between the models. I have a 2000 Formula w/ Leather, 6 sp, 3.42 gears (only ratio available with the 6 sp). T-Tops and power everything. It's basically the !TA mod. Plus it's looks cleaner I think.
