Noobie question Long time reader, first time posting. I have a 94 Firebird and have recently started noticing that my catalytic cover is making loud noises. I can see that the cat looks damaged, but when I hold it in place it stops rumbling. I think my best bet would be to replace the cat, but would it be easier to replace the entire exaust? I don't know what is entailed in removing the cat, which is why I ask. Thanks in advance.
I would buy a replacement cat with the right enter-exit diameter for $100 from Jegs or Summit or anyplace that is realisic price wise and a muffler shop should charge no more than $40 to cut and weld the new one in place. Make sure they weld the flange the cat-back bolts to so you won't be pissed off later.
