Default 98 Firebird

A dealer in my area is selling a 98 Pontiac Firebird for $4,700, I went up there and he said he'd take $3,000 for it. Whoever had it last treated it like crap. It has 142,000 miles on it, two broken air vents, the defrost vent is broken, all the wheels are bent, needs new tires, the steering wheel is crooked because it needs an alignment, frame is bent, doesn't sound good, service engine light is on, the engine coolant tank has like thick reddish stuff in it, like its never been changed. Everything needs to be flushed, probably needs new brakes. That's all that I can think of so far. My friend tells me for $3,000 it's a good deal because the exterior looks good. I don't think so. What do y'all think?

I wouldn't touch it. It's got too many problems. Save your money and buy a decent one.

If you have time, part it out. People always need parts. I wouldn't offer more than $2000 for it though.

As much money as you would have in fixing it, you could go spend a couple grand more and get a very nice car. I would still say stay away.

Bent frame is the biggest red flag for me, they say they can straighten them out to factory specs, but I wouldn't touch a car with a bent frame with a 10 foot pole.
Pass on this one and find one in better shape, even if it costs more, you'll be money ahead

These guys are right sxemama.... If that frame is bent and then bent back into place.... the metal is fatigued. I would NOT trust driving it for an extended period of time, especially if you plan on racing it around. You should be able to find a very nice Firebird with lower mileage for ~$5000 or so. Good luck.

FYI,
In my area, I saw a 94 T/A (LT-1) with 68K miles for $5000 in perfect condition.

You will end up spending way too much money in the long run. Remember those are just the things you know about it. The thing may barely run...

The dealer is giving it away for 3k for a reason....
