No cracks on either side yet on my '99 WS6 however I still have less than 10k miles and it is stored in a climate controlled garage. I think I will remove those virgin door panels this summer however and relax any tension being caused by the notorius staples mentioned earlier just to prevent them from cracking like everyone elses have been doing. If this cracking issue keeps up I may have the only perfect original panels on the planet lol.
I also have more than 50 different photos of the cracked door panels on various 98-02 cars if anyone needs them to submit to GM as part of a recall initiation.

I don't know if it's been said yet, but I've seen a lot of LS1 firebirds and TAs, and for the most part, the ones built in '99 and later all had the cracks. My 98 doesn't, and I've only seen one built before 99 that does. Maybe GM changed the cast for the door panels in late 98 or 99 and made them thinner.
In the meantime, I'm going to take mine off and epoxy a popsicle stick to that general area on both of them to try and strengthen them from the inside. Just in case.

I have a 1998 Trans Am WS6 with 40K miles on it. Always garage kept, but not heated.
My door panels have not visibly cracked yet, but they are both bowed and heavily stressed at the top in the same place as everyone else's pictures show.
I'm going to pull the panels off in a month or so and rip all those staples out. I hope that relieves the tension in that weak spot!
God bless Pontiac. Show me a perfect car and I will show you a perfect lie!

My passenger side got about as bad as its gonna get a few weeks after I bought mine. I guess it was partially from the passengers slamming the door maybe? My drivers has a small crack. It will prob grow I am sure.

39K miles and no cracks, however the drivers door has a slight indention which you can only feel as you glide you finger across the surface, it is not visualy noticable. Should I remove the staples, will it relieve the stress or is that just a bunch of bologna.

Cracked interior door panel
I had this same situation on both driver and passenger door. It is a 99 FireHawk and I bought it with the cracks. I had both doors repaired for around $125.00. I had a upholstry repair company come my house and did the repair on the spot. We took the panels off the car and plastic weld them from the back side. On the insde he welded it also and the ground it down filled in the crack and air brushed with paint to match the interior colour. Worked perfect no one could tell. Do not by new ones that is expensive. Any questions on it let me know

The plastic weld is best on the inside and yes move those staples. fill in the crack and airbush paint that matches. Nice to see all these crack get repaired. Seems to bother everyone once you know its there

got it fixed, panel looks much better now. it doesnt bow in where the staple/crack was.
the hardest part about doing it is trying to get the staples out.

my friend has a 99 w/ 90k miles and no cracks. but my 02 w/18k miles started to crack. bunch of BS.
i think that it all depends on where exactly the staples are placed from the factory.

i would actually like to re-cover my panels in microfiber and if they crack, i just might!
