To find out if it's a legitimate WS6 car, just open the driver's door and look at the decal on the end of the door. If you find "WS6" in the RPO list, then you've got the real thing. If there's no WS6 listed, then you've got a clone. It wouldn't be to hard to add the hood, emblems and wheels and pass it off as a Ram Air car. Since your 'bird has Vette wheels and not the 17" WS6 wheels that would be another reason for it to possibly be a clone. The previous owner might have found it easier to buy the Vette wheels than to scour for factory WS6 wheels.
You're either just being a little overly concerned about the body panel fitments, or your 'bird has been wrecked at some point. I could pick apart the panel fitment on my 'bird too, but that's how I drove it off the dealer lot when it was brand new. Mass-produced cars that are affordable by the masses aren't going to be perfect.
