OK, I know I've posted this in 2 forums already, but I'm just so damn excited I can't help myself. Hopefully the moderators will indulge me.

The restoration is done and it was just delivered this morning. And now begins the heart-transplant.

Body:

New heart:

Let the transplant begin!

Cool! Post up pics as the transplant progresses

I'll let this thread live here, but I can't guarantee the others in the other forums will survive

Sweet Trans Am, man... that is beautiful. What are you planning on doing with the shaker?

I'm still trying to decide on the shaker. The way I see it, I have 3 options:

1) Bolt the shaker to the hood
2) Find a way to mount it to the engine
3) Do 2) and then route the intake through the scoop for CAI

1) is certainly the easiest and probably what I'm going to go with. 2) would be nice because I love the way the shaker shakes with the engine. 3) I'm not sure if there's really going to be a benefit. I would have to do some tricky piping to make that work and I'd think with all those bends I'd lose any advantage I might get from the cooler air. My guess is that running the intake to the front fender well is "good enough". Or I might find some other way to get cooler air in. Not sure. If anyone has any ideas ....

There's a guy in Atlanta that's doing the exact same thing. Same car, same color, same drivetrain. I pm'ed this thread to him so he can take a peek. His car is in the paint shop right now.

Very nice. What kind of body work did you do or have to have done? I'm toying with the idea of doing my own rear quarters on the Esprit, but not sure if I'll get in way over my head and end up costing myself more than its worth.

Well, it was basically taken all the way down to the frame and then built back up. Part of that was necessitated by the !@#%$ restorer. When I brought the car to him, it was in pretty darned good condition. I constantly got comments from people about how nice it was and people regularly asked me if it was for sale. But I'm a perfectionist and I wanted it to be as good as could be, so I took it in to a restoration shop.

The restorer then stripped the car down and put it in his back parking lot. In NorthEast Pennsylvania. For almost 7 years. By that time it was in pretty miserable shape. Here are a couple photos I took of what it looked like at that point.

I literally cried when I saw it. In case you didn't see my comments in the other thread, this was my very first car. I bought it when I was 15 with my paper route money. This car and I have 19 years of history together, including getting my driver's license, my first speeding ticket, my first accident, the prom, going off to college, more spin-outs than I care to remember ... I'll tell you, you never forget the first time you're going over 100MPH sideways with your headlights pointed right into the door of a car in the other lane. Ah, to be young and invincible again....

So anyway, what should have been like a $7K-$8K "restoration" (really more just a touch-up) ended up being closer to $23K.

It's been a long, hard road. I was so happy yesterday when I got behind the wheel for the first time in over 7 years. It killed me to have to hand over the keys again (I gave it to the guys at Synergy, who are doing the conversion - I wish I had the time to do it myself, but I just don't ).

As perverse as it sounds, I love that car about as much as I would a child. So you better believe I'm gonna take care of her!

And just for you GOT-V8, here are 2 more pics. Hopefully the first one is the view that most people will have of it.

I really enjoy seeing progression pics of a car project. You'll really be glad you've taken the time to do all the photography work when the car is all done.

Note: I added info to the title of the thread to convey what it was about....it's too good of a thread for visitors to potentially skim over.
