Smile looking forward for mods need help

I've had my 01 T/A ram air for about 3 months already, and I am enjoying it. I want to add some more power slowly, but I do not know what to start with. I'm still a college student so I don't have that much money. Could somebody help me; what can I start adding to the engine to gain power, from cheapest to a moderate cost? I would really appreciate anybody's comments.

You can start with a lid and a cat back, then move on to headers off road y pipe (or catted y if you have to worry about emissions), then go on to heads, cam, nitrous, turbos, superchargers, the go for larger displacement engines, what you do is limited only by the depth of your wallet

start with a 427...just joking, lid and cat back would be a good start...since your in college, i would recommend buying everything used. about half the price and your are goingto use it anyways. People on here are great about there parts being in good shape. Thats just what i think

If your an M6 your gona need a new rear before you start putting good power down. I would say your stock one is safe around 350 rwhp but they have blown up with less. If your an A4 no worries till 10's!!

Definitely buy used if at all possible. I saved myself tons going this route . Anything under the car will get worn over time, so it's not like you're going to be gaining that much "quality" once the parts are installed.

Focus on the bolt-ons: Lid, Catback, long-tube headers, and a basic tune. That should make you happy for a good while.

I went to the muffler shop and asked about the cat back. The guy told me that he could do the y with 2and something inch pipe and the rest with a 3 inch pipe(from the pipes they use) and I could just keep my flowmaster. He'll charge me 150 for this. Should I do it or should I buy a whole cat back system. Will this work? And about the lid the whole package which is about $270 is what I want right not just the lid by itself.

IMO I think it would be better to just buy a whole cat back system just because alot of local shops don't know much about what they should(exhaust) lol. On the lid package thing I thinks that I'm going to get the clear one from MTI just because it looks cool IMO. Just my .02

Just get the lid, and forget the package deal (a lid is a lid, so get whatever one you can that appeals to your eyes or wallet, I got an SLP $80 shipped off ebay)
Catback, get one of the many systems available, and don't bother with the muffler shop, you can install it yourself, and save the labor charge for more mods, or whatever

About how much is it for a catback and a y-pipe, which is what the muffler shop will do. Why should I not get the offer from the muffler shop. Is it not the same or will it not help?????

Depends what one you buy, they can range from $1000 to $250.
Why usre the muffler shop, the average catback is pretty simple to put in (as long as you know what end of a wrench to hold) save the shops labor charge and do it yourself. BTW If you have no place to do it, or don't have the know how to do it, there's nothing wrong with having a shop doing it. I'm just against paying someone to do something I can do myself, that's my 2 cents
