Lt1 Vs Ls1 Race!!
i have a 97 ws6 trans am. its a 6 speed. I raced my friends 99 ls1 trans am with a full exhaust and lid.. I pulled on him cuz i have manual and then he just sped ahead by like 3-4 car lengths. What the hell do i need to do to not allow him to speed ahead like that. I know he raced a mach I with a full exhaust and short throw and he couldnt get passed that .. So i got magnaflow catback. You think if i get pacesetter long tube headers and a short throw.. it would be somewhat closer? When i get the money ill get 4.10 gears but i cant afford that right now. So what do i need to do and im not putting a cam in my car.

I think the LSx has a better higher-RPM power band than our LT1s. Also, A4's are a bit quicker since you're not shifting through 5 gears with the chance of user-error. Not saying you're a sloppy shifter, but you can't deny there's always a chance of error. There's too many real variables to say why they beat us when mods come into play. To really make an accurate analysis of the situation, it would have to be Apples to Apples (stock on both sides).
Now the Mach 1, I can't see why an LSx would lose. They're nothing special. I knew a guy at my old work who used to come in all the time (parts store). He had one and sold it right away because it was a joke. He loved Mustangs too.

Mach 1's are no joke, they are essentially the same when it comes to power/weight etc. they are solid rears like ours so there goes the advantage over IRS for us. They are underrated as well and an even match for a stock LS1. I can see why your friend would lose to one, A4 LS1's are sleeping giants with the stock converter, it really does hold them back.
Comparing LT1 vs. LS1 is not really even Apples to Apples, they are totally differnent beasts, if nothing can really transfer over its not worth comparing. You're better of comparing the LT1 to a 70's 350, they are that different. Either can be made fast though, but to answer your question you'll probably need more than some LT's and a shifter, add a cam to that and you'll have em'. Just hope he doesnt get a stall!
