wow, i am going to throw my .02 from what i red....

mid 01 LS1s had the LS6 intake on. Cams were different on the cars.

'98: 198/209 .500"/.500" 119.5

'99-'00: 198/209 .500"/.500" 119.5

'01-'02: 196/207 .467"/.479" 116

All LS1 have Aluminum D/S. the ram air does work, jsut not till about 80 mph. all stick cars came with 3.42. autos had either a 3.23 or 2.73

that is all can really think of......

Talk 175 mph and we'll pay more attention.

BTW, the faster f-body drag racers typically get rid of their T/A wing and go with more low profile Formula or sheetmetal wings for a reason. It isn't because the T/A wing works better.
yeah i read my post that make me seem like a import owner dont it.

it could be just not used to that huge wing in the back window.

yes i know most faster drag cars are usualy hardtop formulas or stripper camaros due to the weight.

so +1 for me bein a jackass

^ torch i have seen 2.73 cars have steel driveshafts

I was considering changing mine over to T/A but had also heard the hatch issue being heavier. You might want to look into Lexan glass, which is supposed to be much lighter than the factory glass. Makes the weight hit much easier to take.
I also saw in person a few steel driveshafts on the 2.73 cars. Mine is aluminum with 3.23s- G80 axle code.

There was a recal with some balancing issues, the remedy for the recall was to remove the steel drive shafts adn replace them with the Alum ones. GM then sent the new cars off of the assembly line with Alum only at some point in the build years.

I guess I just can't figure out what is different about the actual hatch to add more weight. Since the spoiler is basically just raised up, being non-metallic. I thought yo couldn't add the spoiler to the normal Firebird because the mounting holes.

Oh well.

You don't add a T/A spoiler to a Firebird hatch, you change the hatch from a Firebird to a T/A one. Counterpart, you can add the higher wing on the firebird, like the one from Wingswest, but don't get mistaken, i'm talking about the one that actually extends the firebird wing, not the towel hanger.

the formula "v6" hatch is hollow the t/a hatch is soilid the spoiler on top is solid as well that extra material is where the weight is.

I'm telling you man, the bumper is heavier too, not just the hatch. It's like a night and day difference. I don't know if you have ever had both side by side and worked with both but the there's an obvious difference in weight!! They're not "damn near the same". And as for the hatches, the Formula hatch was so light it was simple to carry that thing off by myself, but I needed a hand carring the T/A hatch out to the car and to install it, it's definitely considerably heavier. I didn't know this either until I swapped out these parts on my car; night and day.

Oh just wanted to add, I have put a WS9 hood on my car, and there is actually a big square cut out behind the nostrils leading directly into the opening of the intake lid (which is more than we can say for GM's WS6 hood)... and I must say still NO noticable difference in power at all.

This thread makes my head hurt...

As far as power ratings... an LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1. No matter the factory rating, or trim level, Trans Am, Z28, SS, Formula, Corvette... they all make around the same power stock.

The only things that make them slightly faster than each other is weight, gearing, and transmission selection. End of story.

My formula weighs 3393 according to my insurance information. I'm not sure how accurate that is as I've never had it on a scale.

^^^^^ I was asking around how accurate title weights are, 'till someone showed me the way to a scale by me. They never are dead on. IDK why or when they weigh it.

My title shows 3250, wich is close but my car actually weighed in at 3500 with half tank gas, some hockey equip inside and a subwoofer and amp. Like I say it was close, but was off by at least 150.

38 punds? Gas I presume?

I have to go back one night w/out all the crap in my car. I was silly not to do it right the first time but it was a last minute decision to go. I was also worried about sitting there too long as its not a public scale. I'll also go rear wheels then front wheels. I'll keep you posted, if you wanna know.

38 pounds was from what he was talking about earlier with the t/a hatch weighing 38 more than the formula hatch...just clearing that up...
