Right, that was one of the 455 4 spd cars in that scene. Hal Needham says in the Special Edition DVD that Pontiac gave them 5 cars to use during filming and they were scrambling to take parts off of the cars that they destroyed so they'd have a car for the final scene.

Yes, I saw that it was remarkable how they were borrowing parts from cars to make the final shots of the movie. Also Pontiac Never gave Burt a car, He had to go and buy one. Which he mentioned on the bonus features in the SE DVD.

I believe if you want a replica Bandit. Buy a 76, install the 77 front clip. Make sure it has black Horse Collar interior with no Rear window defrost and the hurst t-tops.

Also the 76 455's with nothing compared to the 455 SD or HO's of 73-74 birds.

in smokey and the bandit 1 they used a 77 2nd they used a 80 turbo t/a some say a 81 but if you watch the movie it was made in jan of 80 so it couldnt be a 81 as it wouldve had to been jun or so to get a 81, also in 81 they started using a 1 color bird decal so there again proves its a 80 then the last proof ending credits it says"son of trigger 80 trans am" then in the 3rd smokey and the bandit they used a 83 after they seen the sucess of 82s knight rider.in the new dvd it says only 3 cars was given to make the 1st film.burt was givin a 77 after the movie then burt got the first 78 y84 from pontiac, after that burt got no more free t/as,then after filming the 2nd part he bought a 81 turbo in which he sold to a online musuem and the 78 went to npd and the 77 i seen on ebay about 5yrs ago and was also used in a orange juice commercial back in late 80s early 90s that burt use to appear on.

first off it was technically 76s in the originial smokey and the bandit....with the 77 front bumper attached.....and watch the dvd again...they state 6 cars were used not 3 and burt was given a trans am after the movie but when the president of gm passed they stopped giving them to him so he bought one....the 77 that burt had was NEVER in the movie, just one of his private cars..and he still has this car as he made an apperance in it just last year on a television show that interviewed him.... now the 78 WAS NOT the first Y84 cause i do know the owner of the FIRST one and it has pilot stamped into the vin number and firewall and motor and tranny......the 81 well that thing deserved to be gotten rid of since it had the engine like a piece of crap...

the 77 burt had was not used in the film and i never stated that it was given to him and was sold on ebay a few years ago the owner had title that was still in burts name with a florida address and it autographed and with a pic of him sitting on it with his son by him on a gocart.if youll find the first catalog npd had with the 78 all over it,they state not me that it was the first y84 and was given to burt, burt didnt get a 79.i dont doubt there was 1 76 used in part 1 espicially when burt is on the side of the road waiting for snowman at the texas line but they didnt get 76s and put 77 noses and wheels on them lmao just to make them into 77s for the movie.i also have a old interview add from hal that stated they were 77s and they put a 455 in the only 4spd 77 mainly for the jump.and my dvd version says they was 3 cars

I had a 77 T/A in high school. I loved that car, but it was nothing compared to the SS.

76 they started using hurst (smaller)t-tops some 78s started using fishers t-tops til 81,78 was the last yr you could get hurst t-tops unless you had them installed.pontiac didnt make a hurst firebird or t/a but in 97? when they make a blk hurst edition but i dont know if they were produced and i think lingifilter was in on it. it wasnt due to any torque reasonsthey hope the info helps

About the birds facing the other way, I believe all birds on the hoods faced to the left, except the 80-81 Turbo T/A's which faced to the right with the spit fire up on the bulge of the hood
