Default Is it a Firehawk? what is it?!

I was looking at buying this Firebird, but it labels it as a formula/trans am...and the it appears the hood says "ram air" and there is also a WS6 decal under the rear right tailight. How can i tell if its a trans am or a formula?

Thanks, Ceth

If the car is original, it's easily distinguished as a Trans Am from the styling of the front nose, and the high-level rear spoiler. If it's original, I assume that it's at least a '96 since that was the first year for the fourth-gen Ram Air Tran Ams.

For some reason on titles and such Trans Am's sometimes are labeled as a Formula Trans Am.

i think from the factory they were all originally designed as formula's and then had the body parts converted.

Looks like a T/A to me. If its a WS6, get is and fix it up. Wheels look nice and clean. I seriously thought about getting a LS1 WS6 that was wrecked but had all the parts on it, just the car was blackand the hood was red and the front clip was navy blue. It would have needed repainted and I didn't have the money for paint then, just for the car and that would have been it, so I didn't buy it because I didn't want to have a multi colored DD. If it wasn't a DD I probably would have gotten it.

Here we go again,
Guys this has been covered before, The Vin# does not distinguish between Formula or Trans Am so if the Vin is looked up it will always come up as Formula/Trans Am.
The proper way to distingush between models is to look up the RPO Sticker
(Glove box for LT1 cars, Drivers door for LS1 cars)
All V8 Firebirds will have the WS9 RPO
All Formula's will have the W66 RPO
All Trans Am's will have the Y82 RPO

You can tell it's not a Firehawk by the hood. It's either a real WS6 or aftermarket hood.

And, that is not 100% true. My 95 firebird had the RPO codes in the glovebox. and my 97 has it on the door. So not ALL LT1's have it in the glovebox.

Just FYI.

But the Firehawk hoods look identical on LT1's. Is there anything I am missing?

I stand corrected I was not aware of the RPO sticker relocation in `97 Thanks

The Firehawk and WS6 Hoods for the LT1 cars are different in the inlet location you'll have to see two cars side by side to notice the diffeence.

as far as i am concerned its not a firehawk because as far as i know firehawks in models from 93-97 came only in base firebird body style with the exception of the hood of course. but thats what i know up to date. i could be wrong

This is how it works, a Trans am is always also a formula, it says formula for every T/A, but a Formula isnt a Trans Am

That and I've never seen a LT1 Hawk hood say "Ram Air". And they CERTAINLY would NOT have a WS6 badge.
