Default Tuner vs Shift kit?

Does anyone know how an A4 responds to a tuner compared to a real shift kit?

i dont know but i would just get the shift kit installed.It makes a diffrence but not a big one but it's up to you . That's my 2 cents

Swaybird, my TA looks exactly like yours! Well it will next week when my WS6 hood is on..Do you have the grilles in the nostrils or not? It doesn't look like it..

Depends on how agressive of a shift kid you go with. You can get really hard shifting ones, or just mild shifting ones. A mild one would be close to the max they could get out of a tune. I like hard shifts, so more clutch packs and higher pressure is a must Hell my old 700R4 chirped 3rd @ 85 (no lie). Only once mind you, but it did it lol

I do believe that! I had an 89 Iroc that was cammed up,3" SLP exhaust,power pully,hypertech power chip and a fairbanks shift kit..It was about $120.. I'm not kidding,that car had 3:27 posi..It was a 5.7 tuned port motor.. It didn't matter if I was doing 15 miles and hour or 30,when it hit 2nd it chirped the tires everytime..And if I floored it,it would fish tail everytime! It shifted too damn hard tho..After I get 3:73's in my TA,I'm going to get a tuner to fix the speedo and shift points,and try the trans firmer shift..If that works,I won't do the shift kit..

Definitely don't doubt you. I've owned two L98 powered cars, and with a firm shift, they'll bark the tires like no one's business. I was always amazed at the L98's torque. Too bad they fell flat at 4800rpm.

the shift kit will help. you can tune to increase line pressure and make the shifts firmer, but ultimately these efforts will make the life of the tranny shorter.

the best option is a stout tranny with a good tune.

I heard the same thing

If you get a tuner dont mess with the line pressure or the shifts firmness, something will brake. I would get a shift kit if you want the kick with you go WOT or maybe gears 3.73 or 4.10. . If you want to turn on your fans, clear codes , add timing etc go with the tuner.

With the tuner the A4 shifts a little firmer, you have more lower end torque on 1st and 2nd. you chrip the tires on 2nd gear at 55 mph when you go WOT from a dig.You use more gas ,alot more.
