M6 / A4s were split pretty evenly in TAs.
Sweet, thanks for the info!

With compnine down I haven't been able to find a reputable source to confirm the following:

According to the site a 44U/MN6/GU6/G80/BBS/Traction Control/Monsoon 10 speaker/Taupe Lux Reclining (the ones with inflatable bolsters/lumbar and power drivers) was found to be on only 23 or so cars in 2000. Anyone know if there's any way to back this up via math or something similar to Compnine?

Trying to put a portfolio/show stand dossier together for when I can finally park the car and restore it to a show-worthy state.

Data I have on '00 T/As from CompNine*:

Total 2000 MY T/As built: 13595
w/ MN6/GU6 (all cars w/ MN6 get GU6, and all T/As have G80): 6666 (49.0%)
w/ 44U: 504 (3.7%)
w/ BBS: 4378 (32.2%)
w/ NW9 (ASR, aka traction control): 7839 (57.7%)
w/ W54 (Monsoon w/ Cassette): 1452 (10.7%)
w/ W55 (Monsoon w/ CD: 12143 (89.3%) (all T/As had Monsoon w/ CD indash, but Monsoon w/ cassette was a credit option)

w/ 522/523/524 (Taupe Leather): 1908
w/ Taupe + AQ9 (Lux seats): 1563 (11.5%)

(* CompNine's database appeared to be missing ~244 units for the 2000MY Firebirds compared to other data sources, so the numbers above may be off a bit).

You can play games with the percentages to estimate the number of cars that had that combinations of RPOs, but that is only accurate if the RPOs were distributed evenly and independantly of all other RPOs (which is not the case). The old CompNine site had a GUI that would allow you to enter a string of RPOs for a given model/year and it would tell you how many cars had that combination, but that GUI is not available any longer (at least not for free).

One thing you can say for sure, is that your car is one of 504 MRM 2000 T/As built, and roughly 1/2 of those had M6.

Out of curiosity, where/how did you get the 23 number?

Well I actually pulled the 'important' RPO codes off my door sticker and plugged them into compnine back in '10 when I first got the car. Used the old GUI back when it was free and it pulled up 23 cars built with MN6/44U/BBS/NW9/W55/5xx/AQ9. I just want to double check my numbers since I bring it up when I talk about the car obviously and I want to make sure I'm not spewing BS.

Real irony of it being one of less than easily 300 cars is that one of them just happened to be the other MRM car in Toledo at the time (2010); Tribone's T/A. Most others I've seen have had black/ebony interiors.

Then I'd trust the 23 number, the only caviat being that CompNine's database is missing ~1.8% of the 2000 MY 'Birds, so maybe that number is actually 24. Regardless, the combination of MRM, M6 and Taupe interior alone puts the car solidly down in the double digits. All the other RPOs (shifter, radio, ASR) are not usually considered as contributors to rarity unless the number of cars that received them are down in the single digits (not the case here).

Any way to back that 23 number up? I'd like to find more so I can back it up at shows.

Was a top 5 winner in my class today! Not bad for the first show we've done!

I talked to Scott Settlemire about it last weekend at Superfest and he said there really isn't any way to confirm anything on any number. The only real confirmation he's ever gotten himself was the 1 of 7 Sport Gold SS drop tops back in '98. And that was done via GM internal documents (which was a royal pain with the curmudgeons working in the department at the time as they had better things to do.)

However Comp Nine is/was about as dead on as you can get as far as a breakdown of RPO codes. I had the sheet printed out someplace but misplaced it over the years; it was 1 of 23 with the options though, 504 built in 2000.

FYI, I recently checked CompNine again and they have significantly upgraded the *free* GUI for selecting RPOs on your car to determine rarity. Enter your VIN at the link above and then start selecting the important RPOs (color, transmission, WS6, interior, etc).

Note that this *free* GUI limits you to 3 VIN searches / day. And there is still no "freewheeling" RPO <> quantity queiry capability like they used to have.

Can anyone tell me how rare my car is (if it's possible to narrow it down to an approximation even)?

I have a black 1996 Trans Am WS6 coupe with the following:
T-Tops
AC Delco Cassette / 10-speaker system
10-disc CD changer in rear
Aluminum wheels
Manual 6-speed transmission
Steering wheel controls
Keyless entry
Anti-theft
Power antenna
Charcoal interior

Also, just out of curiosity, how many were made with the raised Firebird emblem on the front bumper? I've seen ones with and others without. Mine has the emblem, if that makes any difference in the count as well.

I checked on Compnine, but it tells me: "Sorry, rarity information is not yet available for your car. Please check back soon." :/

My guess is that your car is one of those that are not included in CompNine's database, they show only 1530 '96 WS6 T/A coupes, while another source indicates that 2051 were built, so nearly 500 are missing from their count. Did CompNine give you your car's RPO listing? If not, then it doesn't exist in their database.

I can't comment on the raised bird emblem on your car's nose.

Nonetheless, based on their data (which includes only 1530 of the actual 2051 WS6 T/A coupes), the breakdown of your options is as follows (extrapolation estimates are based on %, and are included):

1996 Trans Am WS6 coupes: 1530 (2051 actual)
w/ Black: 608 (39.7%, estm 815 actual)
w/ 6-speed: 853 (55.8%, estm 1143 actual)
w/ Black & 6-speed: 357 (23.3%, estm 479 actual)

These remaining numbers are for WS6s w/ M6 in all colors (no extrapolation is possible since I don't know the actual M6/A4 split for WS6 coupes):
T-Tops: 691 (81.0%)
AC Delco Cassette / 10-speaker system: Assuming this is the monsoon (W54), 325 (38.1%)
10-disc CD changer in rear: 199 (23.3%)
Aluminum wheels: 100% (all WS6s came w/ 17" polished wheels, RPO N66)
Steering wheel controls: Not sure (RPO?), I thought this was standard on all T/As
Keyless entry: 755 (88.5%)
Anti-theft: Not sure (RPO?), I thought this was standard on all T/As
Power antenna: Not sure (RPO?), I thought this was standard on all T/As
Charcoal interior: Leather or cloth?
- Graphite cloth: 167 (19.6%)
- Graphite leather: 573 (67.2%)

All of the above info was pulled from my breakdowns (linked in sig).

Just to comment on this. 96 wheels were painted with a polished lip. 97+ were polished.

Thank you! This gives me a pretty good starting point at least. CompNine was able to pull my RPO code list, it just didn't have any rarity information, unfortunately. To add, I have the graphite leather interior. I also have the ACDelco system, the Monsoon systems weren't installed until later years I believe.

Edit: I stand corrected, I found your chart breakout here: http://www.transamworld.com/1996-breakdown.htm
Based on this and looking at my RPO code list, I do have the Monsoon system (just not the head unit). Also, the U1S RPO code gets me down to 1 of 199 based on your numbers. That gets me pretty close now. I have a picture of my RPO code sticker and I can PM it to you if you'd like. I have no idea how you did the data extrapolation to get the guesstimates, but if you have the time to try that again based on my exact RPO list, I'd really appreciate it.

Feel free to shoot me a PM w/ your RPO or VIN# (I can get your RPOs from CompNine w/ your VIN#). However, since the breakdown info I do have is based on incomplete data in CompNine's database, I'm not sure if the information that I "derive" from it will be substantively worth any more than what I've already done.

FYI, the guestimates above are extrapolations based on the % of the option being installed on the 1530 cars that DO exist in CompNine's database. For example:
357 of the 1530 '96 WS6 T/A coupes in CompNine's *incomplete database* were black and had M6: 357/1530=23.33 or 23.3%.

Since the actual number of '96 WS6 T/A coupes built were 2051, assuming the distribution of black w/ M6 in those missing 521 cars is the same as within the 1530 cars, one can reasonably estimate that 23.3% of the 2051 total are black w/ M6, or 2051 * 0.233 = ~479 actual cars built were black w/ M6.
Since I did not break-out the options for each of the colors, nor do I know how many of the 2051 actual WS6s had M6 or A4, I cannot give you an even reasonable estimate of how many black M6 WS6 coupes had the U1S CD changer, etc. Basing an estimate on one assumption is bad enough, but basing the estimate on two assumptions is much worse. I'd rather avoid going there.

RPO BBS factory Hurst shifter was not a "factory" option until '99, so it must have been a SLP option in '96. You'd have to contact SLP about that.

* CompNine's database appears to be missing units for the '96 MY (~25%), so take these quantities w/ a grain of salt.

SLP did all the WS6 cars in 96 and 97. 524 Formula's were made in 96. Yours almost sounds like mine for options.

Hurst shifter wasn't an option on the WS6, only the Firehawk. I had the Firehawk shifter in mine but it came out of a Firehawk. It was a pretty crappy shifter for what those guys paid for. The Hurst Billet was much better.
