Anybody Ever Race A Grand National?

Stock for Stock you would win farely easy.
If you do all the major bolt on's like headers with full exhuast and intake and all that good stuff. You should be fine unless he is heavily modified.

I test drove a 1987 GN and my brother has a GN engine in his car. Stock vs stock the ls1 will win by a modest margin in the 1/4. You here all these stories of GN's beating LS1's, but they don't tell you they are heavily modded. It's all about how much you want to spend. There were two GN's at the track the last time I went. I wanted to run them but we never lined up together. There times were getting better with every pass so I assume they were tuning them. The best run I saw was 12.7 from one of them and it started out in the low 14's. I wanted one of my buddies to take a vid of me eat both of alive without spraying but never got the chance. Maybe this week.

Without a doubt!!!
If you a search, your ws6 can run much faster than high 11's with a H/C setup with a healthy stall
Then add some nitrous and see what's up.
How can you estimate your car can run mid to high 11's. To bad a guy with a muscle car sounds like a ricer.
We all know that the difference of a 1/2 sec is about 5 car lengths. 4.5 sec's would equal about 22.5 car lengths in the 1/4 mile. please do not talk about a race between a 14 sec car and a 9,10,11, or even a 12 sec car. My opinion though! The 87 Formula needs a posi, and some sticky's. I would never even waist my gas at the track with that combo. i concluded that My WS6 needs heads and a cam with a good stall. even with this combo it will be a tight run against the GN. I have seen some GN's put together well with all the right stuff and run poorly. These car's are very finicky and the tune must be dead on! I estimate my GN to run high to mid 11's but must wait untill Morosso's track is open due to the re-build of the track. Any good racer knows that suspension helps win races, so I need to invest in this area also. If the GN builds boost and shoots out of the hole I will have a hard time running it down. Can anybody post a video of an F body running a GN?

First off JP74 a GN is far from a ricer 2nd point is that it is considered to hold the title of the fastest 0-60 production car in the late 80's when it was new. I just want the TA too keep up with my modded GN ($2,500 worth of parts) I ran a 12.7 on a stock turbo bigger DP and fuel pump and race gas. Now it sports a bigger turbo, injectors, air intake, and a stall converter. That is my reasoning for the 11 sec time. If I posted a thread on how to get my TA to keep up with my Civic than we would have a serious issue.

0-60 times don't mean much. I have never raced anyone from 0-60. It's the 1/4 mile times that count.
In your initally post you illuded to "on the street". While many people do it, I think it is too dangerous to risk losing everything I have to say I won a race.
2500.00 in parts on a T/A can easly make it run in the low 11's.
Dynotune Kit 150 shot That will put you in the high 11's by it's self with a good driver. $400.00 The GN is using high octane race gas what's the difference? Run what you have.
Add a cam plus supporting mods $1200.00
Add a big stall converter 500.00 (4000 stall or so)
headers 400.00
2500.00 give or take for the parts.
How quick do you think the fastest cam only LS1 is. I believe it is 10.9.
What I meant by Ricer is assuming you are going to run 11's when you have not actually done it.
That said you can get the LS1 to run low 12's with just bolt ons and some have hit high 11's. if you do a search you will see I am not making this stuff up.

THE RACE GAS IS PERFERED DUE TO THE BOOST CAUSING DETONATION. IT IS TOO EASY TO OVER BOOST THE ENGINE AND BLOW A HEAD GASKET OR WORSE. I NOW USE METH WHICH ALLOWS ME TO RUN REGULAR 93 OCTANG. ANY EVENT I GET THE PICTURE ABOUT THE BOLT-ONS FOR THE LS1. I WILL PUT TOGETHER A LIST AND START THE BUILD. wHY SUCH A HIGH STALL. I AM SLIGHTLY SCARED TO PUT A 4,000 STALL IN THE CAR. HOW ABOUT 3,400 OR 3,600? WHAT CAM? WITH A 3,600 STALL?

You might need a lot! Doesnt take much for those cars to run solid 11's. Don't bet money.......many folks have done that against my car as it looks and sounds like a sleeper. The car is anticipated to do 10.2's now and still very much street legal.
