I bought a G8 GT Friday and have observed what I think is engine braking via downshifting during braking. I supose with the tighter gearing of a six speed more engine braking could be used without the "jerk" upon a downshift. It seems GM is capitalizing on this for fuel economy. Any time the engine speed is increased via engine braking the engine would be in fuel cutoff. Am I imagining this? Is this done on all cars now and I'm just behind the times? Anyone know any more about this?
