Question Difficulty working the keyless entry/remote start

Is anyone else having a hard time with the remote? It won't start or lock from far away, sometimes you have to point the remote directly at the car, and the buttons seem hard to push. Is it a bad remote, a bad battery, or is this a common problem?

mine i can go kind of far but no mile or something like that. you hit the lock button then hold the remote start for 3sec and should fire up, once and awhile i have to do it twice just didnt pick up or something and it might seem hard to push down because its a small button

Yea, my G8 you pretty much have to be right on top of it to work as well. With the size and weight of that remote you would think it worked a mile away. My Dodge minivan and GMC truck work a long ways away but not the G8.

Mine does this too. Frustrating since the weather turned cold here. My lock button always works, the problem seems to be the start button doesn't always work. Gonna take it in next week and see what the dealer says.

Is it just the 09 G8 remotes or are other new Pontiac/GM models have this issue? And if its just the G8 then whats the chance the dealership or factory might correct the issue? I would like to use the remote start for its ideal purpose: to start the car from the house on a cold day

The after market remote(Valet) I have for the Camaro will work from a mile away, from inside, and in my pocket, pointed the opposite way. . .

I was just thinking about this last night. The unlock button doesn't work for ****, and the remote start works about 75% of the time. Typical GM I guess.

My remote start is finicky too.

In this link, the guys report that the 2-way remotes extend the range significantly. Expensive option though, and it requires that you carry an extra remote with you but worth reading:

WOW! Pace has the 2-Way Remotes for our G8's!

My GTO remote has about twice the range as my G8 and still has the original battery.

So I finally asked the dealer about getting another remote and told them about the problems with mine. They said they will only cover a new one if the range is less than 25 ft. The guy I talked to suggested that I place the end of the remote to the bottom of my chin and try. I was like. . . He claimed it would tripple the range. . . So I got home and tried it . . . and it actually worked, first try from inside my house (about 50 ft). I've never been able to start it from there. My wife didn't believe me and was more impressed than I was.

Problem solved . . . I guess?
