Default Livernois Motorsports G8 GXP's New "Mini" Stroker

As of late, you would think our G8 GXP shop car was a scolded child as it has been sitting in the corner for nearly a year. We've been working on an affordable LS3 "Mini" stroker and decided what better to test it in that the G8. The shortblock can be found here

Previous modifications included Livernois Motorsports Stage 1C Camshaft & Dual Valve Spring Kit, Kooks 1 7/8" Mid Length Headers w/ Cats, Corsa Exhaust, Rotofab CAI, and Livernois Motorsports Dyno Tune.

We baselined the vehicle before removing the stock engine and it laid down 445 RWHP / 419 RWTQ.

We the removed the engine, then removed the OEM Heads and 1C camshaft for accurate back-to-back testing. The LS3 "Mini" Stroker was installed and put back on the dyno Wednesday, October 5th at 11 pm. The results were excellent; 473 RWHP / 460 RWTQ. The car was unstrapped and I got in the car to head to the LSX shootout in Indianapolis. With extremely light traffic at that time, I made sure to break it it right . We arrived in Indy at 5 am and displayed the car in our booth along with other shop and customer vehicles. Everyone at the show was surprised at the way the car sounded. With the 1C camshaft, it sounds like a stock G8 with exhaust.

Next, we will install a camshaft that will be a new addition to our popular line of custom L92 camshafts followed by a set of our CNC LS3 cylinder heads. These should easily break the 500 RWHP mark.

Here are some photos and videos from earlier today

Thanks for looking!

This would work in a GT, however it would be $3,699 since you don't have a core LS3 block. You could then install our DOD Delete Camshaft kit and you'd be all set!

Thank you,

Rick

since i have your 1c cam and do delete already. all i will need is your block? this is almost better and more reliable then a supercharger.

Yes, you would need to purchase the engine outright for $3,699.00 and an oil pump, then swap over your components.

Thank you,

Rick

Sounds good! Insured freight would be roughly $299

Thank you,

Rick

How well would the L76 heads work with this shortblock? Are they the same as the LS3 heads? You guys do some bad-*** stuff with these G8's. Going to have to get with you in the spring for some upgrades. What's the deal with the "Mini" stoker? Is this not a stock stroke LS3?

both use l92 cathedral port heads. heads are amazing from the factory. if you get the shortblock a port and polish with a valve job would help, but isnt necessary

Thanks for the kind words!

The L76, L92, and LS3 heads are all the same.

No, it's not a stock stroke LS3.

Thank you,

Rick

So what benefits are there to the smaller stroker vs. going ahead and building a 4" stroke version?

The piston speed is slightly slower, which in some cases is advantageous to a cylinder head/manifold combo that does not flow very high numbers. The shorter stroke might see as big of a gain as the larger stroke with stock heads since the airflow will limit the larger stroke.

We built this as an affordable option. If you're looking to make 750+ RWHP I would still recommend our 404 or 419ci shortblock.

Thank you,

Rick

Ok. I can see where you're coming from now. I've been around racing where they destroke a 400 to a 377 for lower piston speeds at maintained higher RPM and didn't know if this was geared more toward road racing or not. Being geared for a stock top end makes sense.

The L76/L92/LS3 heads are not cathedral port.

So did I miss it, or was it posted somewhere what the displacement of this motor is?
