I would rather have the light blue.(Don't know the technical name for it.) I mean the orange is nice but why would you want all the other cars to be just like yours?

The most important part was left out of all that...weight. The one thing GM can't get through their head is weight. You have to be able to put out a car, like the G8 or GXP and keep the weight to a respectable 3500-3800lb. For the sake of acceleration, braking and cornering, put it on a diet. Allow that hp to work better for you...we all know the 100lb is worth a .1 in the 1/4 mile, if it goes over 4000 you leaving performance on the table. Just my opinion but a truly excellent version of this car would be 3650 or so, but I realize with all the amenities it would be hard to get there.

I see where you are coming from, but I think that cars are getting heavier because of safety regulations. 10 years ago Side-curtain airbags didnt even exist, and now they're getting into almost all cars with each passing generation, for example. Also, If you look at all the other cars in the G8's Class (mid-size sedan?): BMW 5-series, Benz' E-Class, Lexus GS, Cadillac CTS, Chrysler's 300/Charger... all of these cars tip the scales at around 4000lbs. It just seems to be the way of the world. Hell even the Accord, Camry, and Malibu are starting to beef up. Cars are getting bigger... look at a 2008 Accord compared to a 98 Accord, for example.

Trimming the Fat is a good idea, but it gets to the point where it gets expensive to put in light-weight materials.

I agree.

I wonder how the G8 GT and GXP will do in the snow.

if you think cars are heavy now... just wait untill rollbar point systems become standard.

its been fought for a long time to keep them out of production. thats not gonna last much longer. get rdy to add alot more weight to cars when they introduce them from the factory.

but mabe with them they can reduce some other saftefeatures that wont be needed anymore.

Looking at it from the front it looks like every other Pontiac Grand Prix, Grand AM, G6...I wish Pontiac would come up with a different front end.

I kinda wish they offered the manual tranny in more than just the GXP, maybe after the GXP comes out they will offer it in the GTs as well

Does anybody else feel that the GXP should have a bit more engine/hp. It's engine is .2 liters bigger, but the GT still has the same heads and intake. I was just hoping for more. I don't know if 41hp and 21lbs already with premium seems worth it. Definately not having any "I wish I could afford a GXP" type of feelings. I know...The GXP has better wheels and seats, firmer susp...but still. I do like the G8 alot, just don't think the GXP is really worth MUCH extra $$$

You have to think of it in the way that you have 400hp with a warranty. If you want the GT to have the extra 41hp most likely you are going to void the warranty with some of the mods it takes to get their. Also once you start modding the LS3 will gain more hp mod for mod than the GT will.

Personally, I think mod for mod like a tune, intake, exhaust, the GT will quickly close the gap in hp with the GXP. Figuring the GXP is only .2 liters larger and runs on premium already, the GT should be close with with just a tune and running on premium. And they have the same heads and intake (that's the rumer anyway). Maybe the cam is different? I don't think a tune and intake will void the warranty though.

untill a tune, intake, exhaust for the GXP. something tell me the GXP has more to it than whats known atm. they seem confident it will run 13 flat. 41 hp isnt gonna take a high 13 sec car to a basically 12 second car. so im going to assume some suspension, weight, or Gearing will be different.

and just think if they think it can run 13 flat who knows what it will run when the rest of us get our hands on one. ie grand prix 14.3 rated time wound up running 13.6 with a few of us who owned one.

eitherway i like the looks of the G8. if you dont like the front end like some people are complaining about. dont by a pontiac. if you havent noticed pontiac hasnt changed there front fascia in a long time. no company does that often.

be happy your not driving a g8 that looks like a bigger g6. oh wait that would be a GTO.... lol

ANYTHING beyond factory specs they can claim voids a warranty. read the contract when you buy a new car. now yea you can go to court and fight it say your tranny goes out after you get a new intake. ofcourse the intake didnt cause it. but bet your bottom dollar GM is gonna peg you with warranty violations.

Go to the corvette section and look at how the LS3 responds to mods. They open up much easier than the l76 found in the GT. People are seeing 50rwhp from headers, tune, CAI. Very impressive.

LS3 and other upgrades will be worth the extra $$ IMHO...just struggling with the bad weather we see here from time to time...GXP should be able to compete with some elite competition with mods.

I like the 3.70 gears that come stock in the manual GXP, compared to the 2.92's or whatever comes in the GT. I know it's cheap to replace the stock gears, if you have a GT, but stock for stock... it will make a huge difference having 3.70's... Plus if you already have 3.70's there is not much point in upgrading your gears to 3.73's... the next logical step would be 4.10's, and I doubt that would even make a huge difference.... But I did notice the 3.27's that come in the auto GXP... from 3.70 to 3.27 is a nice dropoff... don't know why anyone would buy an auto if they can buy a manual for the same price?
