Does an Obnoxious Exhaust Belong on the G8?
I am a bit torn by this and I wanted to get everyone's opinion.
Do you think that an obnoxious exhaust belongs on the G8?
On one hand, the G8 is a much more refined car than the F-bodies and is marketed more for the more upscale performance sedan crowd.
On the other hand, the car is an American car with a V8, and who doesn't like the sound of a V8?
Do you think that the car would seem out of place if the valet driver hopped in your G8 in front of a fancy restaurant or hotel and fired it up, only to scare the hell out of everyone with a loudmouth and LT's?
I guess I think that the car could benefit from a nice, free-flowing exhaust but it should be kept to a reasonably clean and mellow tone.
Your thoughts?

i'd say anything that has a throaty v8 deserves a loud exhaust. do you like the sound of a 96 impala SS with loud exhaust? How bout a Cadillac CTS-V? i'd say its fair game.

Of course, "loud" is all relative. I think that the sedans with more class deserve a more refined exhaust note to complement the more refined car.
The thought of an obnoxiously loud CTS-V rasping it's way through the financial district downtown kinda makes me cringe.

I voted no because this car is my DD. The stock exhaust is way too quiet but I would like something in the middle. I have the TA if I want to hear a loud exhaust note but I realize this may be some peoples single car. In that case I can see them being torn. On this car, I would like an exhaust with a good amount of sound behind but not something overly assertive.
Will I turn and smile when I hear a G8 with a loud exhaust? Sure would but it's not for me all the time.

I agree with Blackbird, yes it needs an exhaust but not an obnoxious one. I want my highway cruise to be relatively quite but when you step on the gas you know that it is there. My Camaro his a 4" Mufflex, now that is obnoxious.

I want an exhaust that is free-flowing and efficient, but quiet. I am all about function and could not care less about form (in most cases). I want my vehicle to be whisper quiet so people think I am driving an electric car. An electric car that disappears from sight in mere seconds.

I voted yes. On all my vehicles, I run LT headers and kill the cat. Usually no mufflers either, unless they're glass packs. The only vehicle I haven't done this on is my Monte Carlo, simply because I think it would be goofy for a FWD vehicle to be making noise like a Corvette. Also, that CTS-V was built by a local shop around here, if it's the one I'm thinking of. It's got a 408, cammed, long tubes, and a very uh..open cat.

Keep as is. That way you can quietly pull up beside some ricer in a civic that is shocked as you lay some rubber and the kids smile and wave in the back seat.
