While I could see the G8 Coupe eating some Camaro sales, I don't think it would directly compete with the Camaro. I know they'd have very similar suspension, chasis, and powertrain, and most of all platform. But the G8 Coupe looks likes its in a whole different class. And it deffinately won't be competeing with a $55-60 CTS Coupe (as mentioned by one of the motoring magazines).
Some of us are just looking for a sporty GM coupe, while some of us deffinately want a muscles car/pony car Camaro.
I agree though GM has to get the ball rolling with the G8, I do believe sales have been better with the G8. Theres no reason GM can't compete with the Charger R/T or the 300 C, or even their v6 counterparts the G8 is even a pinch cheaper. GM needs market this bad ***

I like Chevy, the Camaro is even nice as well, but I love Pontiac. It's performance AND style, as well as a touch of luxury. G8 is a great example, but so is the comparison of Firebird to Camaro. My 93 has leather, 6 way adjustable (4 way electric) driver AND passenger seats, 10 speaker (pre monsoon) with a CD player and it's a Formula! Hell, my 91 Formula even came with a factory CD player heh
I feel Pontiac is the last step before Cadillac, and that's where quite a few enthusiasts sit for price range. As much as we all would like a Caddy RWD Coupe, it's just a weee bit too expensive. That and too blocky heh

heh, just from looking at the market:
Date from article 03-31-2008 .DJI: 12,258 GM: 23.20
As of Today: .DJI 9,258 GM: 6.91
Bottom line, Don't hold your breath. This current economy (and GM) can't support this.

I think the G8 does battle with the BMW and possibly the G35 so I could see a G8 Coupe competing against those cars.
I wish they would make this as the fiance would definitely buy one, but as of right know GM is only concerned with sure things and the should be. Hopefully they can make a turn around so we can see a couple like this in the future

Anyone know any prices on the G8 GXP? I might be looking to get one of these this summer if the price is right. I just saw that the new Camaro is at 30K which is making me hope that this car will be close to that. Thanks

And as mentioned, old article, old news. Probably won't happen. Although it does look damn good though.

GM is dropping the G8 in 5 years, no coupe here. See post in this section for info. Was hoping they would bring the el camino thing over, but doubt that will happen now.

who said they're cancelling it in 5 years? If it really was that bad, I don't think they'd keep it around for 5 more years?

Read the news Mr Knowitall! GM has stated there will be no replacement for the G8. This is not shocking news since they canned plans for a RWD Impala due to the new EPA regulations. They plan was to build the next gen G8 on the Impala platform. With that platform being dead, there is no point in making a G8 and they probably will stop importing the next gen cars from Australia at that point since the new 35mpg mandate will be in effect about that time.
