You have to remove the airbag first. Be VERY careful. Disconnect the battery and then use the ignition key to release the clips on the back side of the steering wheel that hold the airbag on. You will be able to remove the trim pieces then.

how do i take the clips on the back off just slide them to the side?

Put the carkey into one of the four holes on the backside of the steering wheel that hold the clips and turn it a little while gently pulling the airbag/horn cover. You may have to try a couple of times because they will rehook when you switch to the next clip.
