Sad to say it, but you are wrong. I had mine spec'd on the Cam Doctor and it came out as an F-Body cam. My cam had less than 1500 miles when I pulled it, so it wasn't worn and the numbers don't lie. The GTO just got the true HP ratings.

I posted the results back in '04 or early '05 on LS1GTO. I can dig up the printout if you don't believe me but facts are facts. It is the same cam that the late F-Body's came with, period.

Maybe you got shafted? They're different part numbers in the GM catalog. If you know a parts guy real well you can even find out the right numbers.

http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/archive...hp/t-4182.html

this is interesting as its also on ls1gto.com/forums

I seriously doubt I got shafted as mine ran 13.25 when it was stock. I'm sure I could have gotten it down into the 13.1's if I didn't start modding it.

The GTO was supposed to get a different cam but it didn't happen. It was just a carry over engine, as I stated in that thread also. That was before I even had it on the Cam Doctor

Maybe one day I'll get my stock cam checked out. I find it hard to believe in the GM parts catalog that it is a completely different part number even though its a "carryover"

If I'd gone to the track with mine more regular I'm sure I could've pulled similiar times as you. The MPH was there but I just started modding weeks after I bought it. Took it to the track and ran a 13.6 3 days after owning it. 2 weeks later it had mods. lol. Eff it....

Ummm... what do you mean "it came out as an F-Body cam"??? F-Bodies had three (or is it two? I know 1998 was different than 1999 and 2000 and I thought 2001 and 20002 had a different one, I know the injectors were like that) different cams over the years and I'm 99% sure the last one wasn't in production 2 years later when the GTOs came out... Which year F-Body cam are you saying it had the same specs as?

hes saying it was the same as an 02 fbody cam....even though lots of documentation shows otherwise...but he says his was cam doctor'd. Like I said, I find it hard to believe when GM has different part numbers for ANY Fbody or vette cam opposed to the GTO cam.

I've seen GM give different part numbers for the SAME part before between Corvettes and F-Bodies... Guess which parts cost more ?

I HAVE seen that too but there has almost always been some kind of really dumb little difference. I dunno....I'll stick to the documented cam specs that have been posted in multiple areas and even touted by GM over one persons stock cam thats been "cam doctor'd"

Does anyone know the cam specs for the '02 F-body and '04 GTO??? That would without a doubt take care of the discrepency... I have also seen the multiple PN's for the same product. Not just with GM or the auto industry.

To make it easy...

Copied this from another post I created... I thought it deserved it's own thread.

It looks like the GTO's have the largest lift cam shaft next to the LS6.

Bascially this...

Intake lift... (inches)
.324 - LS6 (2002-2004)
.306 - LS6 (2001)
.292 - GTO
.274 - Vette LS1
.268 - Trans Am

Exhaust Lift.... (inches)
.322 - LS6 (2002-2004)
.306 - LS6 (2001)
.292 - GTO
.281 - Vette LS1
.274 - Trans Am

Wow... I guess that is why these heavy GTO's can still run low 13's...

Here's what mine spec'd out to be:

197/209 .465"/.476" 116.5 LSA

Stock 01-02 trans am cam(from FAQ on LS1Tech):

196.37/208.72 .464"/.479" 115.92 LSA

Tell me they are different cams. I'm sure that is well within tolerance.

I have a 'stock' 05 MBM auto with 34,000 miles on it for sale cheap. Perfect DD. PM me if interested. $16,500

'Mods', I call them fixes:
Russell braided stainless brake lines (its a 4000lb car)
Hawk HPS ceramic pads (its a 4000lb car)
Motul brake fluid (its a 4000lb car)
Torco diff fluid (its a 4000lb car)
Noltec differential insert (fills gap left by stock bushing)
Pedders strut mount bushings (fix strut rub)
Pedders hardened endlinks with poly bushings (stock ones suck)
3" catback with H-pipe (sounds awesome, no drone)
Monaro front bumper (stock grills are ugly, admit it)
Monaro rear bumper insert (too many GTO badges on the car)
Monaro side repeaters (too many GTO badges on the car)
ARP wheel studs (stock ones are too short, pita to work with)

That's not a bad price. Put it up on ls1gto and it will get lots of looks, I'm sure.

Awesome price for that car. Lots of tasteful mods as well. Monaro bumpers are even that much better.

you guy's are good at **** fighting! as far as the two cam specs. you say they are close enough to be called the same. well if you take two cams as you put on here, and they both do not have the same identical lobe measurements, they are not even classified the same. that is why gm put different cams into there cars. different specs for different horse power and torq rateings. as far as the ls1's in the gto's ta's and firebird's, all parts are interchangeable. you can put a ls1 cam into a ls2, but not a ls2 into a ls1, well you can but it will not run! and as far as the drive by wire, it will out last the solenoid on the ls2 engines. i know of several that have had to go back to the dealer to get replaced. drive by wire requires not much in the maintainence area. what i can't figure out is why you two or three are argueing for. both are very good cars, both run respectable times at the track, one does not look any better than the other. whether it has a solid hood or fake hood scoops, wow 50 more horse power, and drive by wire. i agree better looking tail lights. but they did not change the body itself any from the 04's. just the insides, better looking numbers, hood and two pipes that come out from each side instead of one side. gearing is still the same, tranny is still the same, 06's came out with 18's, man isn't that the ****. you guy's remind me of sitting with my grandpa and his friends over 40yrs ago. they all talked about who had the best mule for jumping and the best coon dog for hunting, and would sit and bicker for hrs on end. i look back and laugh now at it, but then it was war because one old man new more than the other, or one had a better dog than the other. or one had a walker pup that could stay on trail all night. iguess it will always be the same, someone will always have something better than someone else even if they are the same. or have something faster even if it is dogs or cars. just enjoy what you have, a piece of history for 1 of 3yrs. or maybe all 3.

There is many more performance perks to the LS2 GTOs than the LS1s.

ls1 is cheaper to mod, and like i said. how are the ls2 gto's better and have more performance perks than the ls1. the ls1's have more aftermarket than the ls2's!!! and the cars are still the same, so what you can put on your 05 will fit on my 04. all parts interchange, the doors, fenders, hoods, rear bumpers, front bumpers, wheels, brakes, dash, seats, hell i can keep going on because they are all the same car. just 50 more ponies at the flywheel, and i believe 5 more things that make it different. what it seems to me is you haven't owned very many cars, it shows in what you say and how you say it. so go and argue with the others about how much better the ls2' are, because i sure do not see it that way!! i am glad i own a gto.

More aftermarket? Not hardly. Minimal amount of difference in the aftermarket.
You can't use F-Body headers on an 04 GTO
You can't use F-Body Catbacks on an 04 GTO
Heads can be used on both
Cams? Not even worth debating. No difference in aftermarket there.

So where is the aftermarket at for 04 GTOs? Most the parts can't be used from an ls1 F-body, most the people who say what you just said just have no idea wtf they are talking about.
I wasn't referring to the aftermarket either. Mod for mod an Ls1 is always going to make less. I've owned 7 cars, not sure what that has to do with anything....

Brakes are interchangeable eh?

Why haven't you actually read through this thread?

Brakes are better on 05-06
Engine is better
Transmission is better
Intake Manifold is larger
TB is larger
Wheels are better (the 05 and 04 17s are actually different, the 04s didn't get a nice coating, thats why they look like ****)
Gauges are different
Controls can be different

If you're telling me the Brakes/Engine/Transmission being better on an 05-06 don't qualify for performance perks, you're an idiot.

The only reason you're arguing is because you have an 04. Plain and simple.

Its probably cheaper to mod a LS2 for the simple fact it already has better heads, LS6 heads. All other mods are the same. Mid pipes are different but the headers are the same.

The LS2 intake is bigger but flows less than a LS6. Once ported though, it flows better.

Transmission is the same T56. There is talk that the A4 is better. The designation is different but that doesn't mean the 4L60E got the updates and just wasn't named. Just like the water pump, timing chain, and head bolts were LS2 on mid year LS1 GTO's but wasn't mentioned.

Wheels are exactly the same. '04 weren't finished as nice. 18" wheels came out in '05 as an option.

The font and redline was changed in the LS2 GTO's.

Mod for mod, the LS2 will come out ahead only because it has a few more cubes. Brakes are marginally better. The rears are the same except the rotor is vented. Technically its an upgrade but the later cars don't stop any better than the '04's. They fade a little later. Mine did fine on the road course in Memphis though.
