short throw shifter
anyone have a good brand? i really dislike the shifter in the '04 thats stock and wanted something that flows better and has smaller shifts. also, how hard would this be to "do it yourself"?

I had the B&M,
broke it the first day I had it
(professionally installed)
I've heard quite a few people broke them (sheared a bolt)
I've read great things about the Billet Specialtys
and the GMM ripshift (Both are bank)
and a pain to install
I've got the LSS (Lou's Short Stick)
and it's nice
takes alot of the "Slop" out (since it dosn't have all the rubber motor mount stuff)
pluss moves the shifter closer to the driver, shortens the throw.
good luck
Edit:
oh yeah,
the LSS is under $50

I broke my B&M after very little use, then they told me to shove it on a warrenty because I wasnt the original buyer of it. Oh well.
Then I had the LSS handle, that suficed for a while. It made the stock shifter not so suck.
Now I have the GMM Race, have not got to row gears with it yet but am looking forward to it.

I have had a GMM Street and it was a great shifter. Easy to shift, shorter shifts... got an offer to swap out to a Billet Pro so I took it. Missed some 3rd gear shifts, and a few 4th gear shifts, but I think that was mostly due to a failing clutch.
Billet pro is rock solid, definately connected feeling to the car. Takes a lot more effort to shift than the GMM, and also I do not think I can shift the Billet as quick as I did the GMM. I have the billet on the highest setting, and I am thinking it is good, cause I want all the leverage I can get to move that into 6th or reverse! Lower setting are definately a much shorter throw than the GMM.
Either way they are the only shifters to get for the Goat. Whichever one you get you will be happy.
