Stock with the limiter removed you should definitaly see at least 170mph but it will take some time to get there. The mods you want done will probably get you to 180 maybe 185 at best. To see 200mph takes a considerable amount more power and it would also help if you lowered your car and did some basic weight reduction.

But keep in mind. Its not how fast a car can go that matters most, its how fast it can get there.

Please don't buy a GTO. It isn't the right car for you.

If that is true how about letting him find out himself?

Not everybody buys the same car for the same reason.
And if he wants a 4 seater car that has the potential to hit 200mph without investing too much money then it seems like it IS the right car for him.

No its not....to hit 200 in a GTO will take a **** TON of power....and a **** ton of supplemental mods to even contemplate doing it.

The OP posted here for OPINIONS. WTF makes yours more valid than mine?

I wasn't going to go any further, but since you insist. First, choosing a M6 vs. an A4 based on which one will get you closer to 200 is about the most idiotic reason I've ever heard for choosing a transmission on a car that will be daily driven.

Second, our insurance rates are high enough, and the OP doesn't strike me as the sharpest tack in the box. There's a LOT of things to consider for that kind of speed, and just the power to get there in a DD car can't be taken lightly. The suspension on these cars hasn't impressed me for doing that in stock form at all.

And finally, I'm a father. It would break my heart to read the story of what would happen should this guy discover the joy of strut rub at 180.

If your only goal is to hit 200 mph for what ever reason (maybe for the salt flatts?) just throw in a really high gear, higher then 2.73s get as close to a 1:1 ratio as possible, instead of throwing a cam that would have a little longer durations. Take that with a m6 and a very unrestricted exhaust setup, you would do it. Can be done.

Just a guess, but I'd say that NOLA means New Orleans Lousiana instead of the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Keep in mind he wants to DD this car and only add power that can't be detected.

If by dance you mean handle then please dont expect much, i mean i only have tires, but my friends 06 Cammed GTO has a full pedder suspension and every cross frame/structure support you could imagine. Kinda sad how he still cant hang close with a stock mazdaspeed 3 on off ramps. But its till FWD so in the end the mazda still loses in my mind haha

But dont be expecting corvette levels of handling from such a heavy and soft car. Its much more of a GT. Great over long distances.

pretty sure stock gears can get you there, i did the online transmission thing and it said 6th will put you at 240 but i think thats bull.

forced induction is the best bet imho.

If you have the money you should consider a G8 GXP, way more practical and i would suggest finding a new one from a dealer. When Pontiac officialy went dead there were a few brand new ones going for 29k BRAND NEW! Which is crazy since the weeks before if you ordered one with the incentives it came out to about 34k after all costs have been added! If i had the chance i would have traded in my car on the spot, or just bought one and worried about selling mine later.

But i dont know if you can still find them that cheap. If you know someone that works at a dealer have them check the dealer auctions for you, there might still be some GXPs in the system, just my .02 cents
