2004 gto valve spring question
What are the stock springs good to? I've been researching all day and I came up with nothing....a buddy of mine said they were the ls6 springs that are good to 600 lift....I personally think he's wrong

Stock LS1 valve springs on the 2004 GTO are not LS6 springs. Just about any cam with a higher lift than stock will require better springs. If your valve seals are ok and if your staying under .600 lift, then Comp 918 or PAC beehive springs will work. You can use the stock seals, retainers, and locks with that style single beehive springs.

ls6 springs became the replacement spring from gm. if you ordered a ls1 spring set you got a ls6 set. i worked in a gm dealer and did the research. same with the cam. if you ordered the ls1 cam you got a ls6 cam and it says in the foot notes to change the springs due to higher lift cam. the stock springs in an 04 gto should be good to .570 lift. im running a gm performance parts stage 2 cam in my camaro and still have stock springs. 227/239 551 lift on a 108lsa. 12k miles and still ticking.

If I remember correctly the 04 LS1 valve springs are only good to 550. GM part number 12499224 is the Yellow LS6 valve spring and it is only good to 550. My guess is that it's the same spring.

LS6 spring is good to .570 as that is what LPE sells with the GT2-3 and worked completely fine. LS1 springs probably are probably good to .525, if that. They are good for the stock LS1 cam and that's about it.
The LS2 springs are just updated LS6 springs and are orange stripe. No LS1 ever got yellow LS6 springs or blue LS6 springs for that matter.
