wrong gear?

wrong gear? i just changed from the stock 3.46 gear to 3.91 gears
last weekend i was actualy slower than the best with the 3.46 gears .
the only thing that changed were the gears.
the weather was not that good , hot and about 20mph head wind .
11.60 was the best , best this past weekend was 11.82 .
i expected to see the mph drop .
and was not shifting to 4th .
car in selected 3 rd gear .
