I removed mine while on the side of the interstate in the dark cold with simple hand tools and a flashlight. Take another look at it, I think your over thinking this.

he's overthinking it or is looking at the wrong accessory. On my LS2 equped '05 GTO the alternator is held on by 3 bolts, all accessible from above (lowest bolt is a blind reach). Then unplug the wire from the side, unbolt the main battery feed line (its got a boot covering it), then simply slide it out. I have a vavaram CAI so I dont know if the stock airtube or airbox will block you.

FYI: The stock alternator on mine is located just forward of the drivers side motor mount: the belt tensioner (which you put a socket or box end side of a wrench on only to loosen to get the belt loose!) is located just forward of the passenger side head. yours should be the same. Good Luck, it's a 20-30 minute deal to remove and replace. Half that if you have done it before.

LOL... calm down man, it's just an alternator you got it off. Actually when my 05 idler pulley broke off (the one that mounts to the alternator bracket) I borrowed the alternator bracket from my friends 04, and installed my 05 alternator on it. (yes, on the side of a dark cold interstate late at night, using a 15mm, 14mm and a 11 or 12 I think). So, I feel it's safe to assume that the bracket is the same, as a matter of fact the 04 and 05 alternator mount the same way, they are identical appearing except the pulley is different.

glad you got it taken care of.
