Is this a M6 or A4? An A4 will require a higher stall converter and a M6 will probably need a better clutch after a while. What kind of budget and what are your performance goals? Is this a daily driver?

Trick Flow and AFR heads are definitely top notch, but also very expensive. I would check out the Texas Speed PRC LS6 stage 2.5 ported heads. Texas Speed also has some good cam kits too, like the Torquer V.2 for example.

For a $3k budget, for cam, heads, springs, bolts, gaskets, etc. you might as well forget Trick Flow. I didn't think you could get AFR heads and stay within your budget either until I saw this from Texas Speed (you'll still need the basic cam/head bolt/gasket kit for another $160):

Personally, I think you should consider the PRC stage 2.5 LS6 head kit for nearly a grand less (spend what you save on a FAST intake manifold or other mods):

Ok, now for what cam to pick. Hard to beat the Torquer V.2 cam. If you want a mean lumpy idle lope, get it with 111 LSA.

contact Ed at Flowtech Induction. be very upfront with him about your goals, driving habits, and expectations. Ed is the cam & head guru and will not oversell you, but make sure you get the best bang for your buck.

Trick flow "As Cast" 220cc ls1 heads (part # TFS-3060T001)
They come assembled as a pair for around $1700
220cc intake runner & 80cc exhaust runner
2.04" intake valve & 1.57" exhaust valve
.600" dual springs

You will need to run a set of aftermarket rockers (Comp, Harland Sharp, Yella Terra, Lunati, Crane, etc).
Comp's Gold 1.72's go for $434 on Summit

Contact Ed (flowtech) or Patrick G. (http://guerragroup.com/camshaft_help.htm) and get a custom cam.

Spend another 325 (only until 02/28/10) and get your manifold and tb ported by Jeremy F.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...g-special.html

so $1700 for heads, around $425 for rockers, $450 for a cam, $100 for push rods, $200 for gaskets, bolts, thread lock, etc, $325 for ported throttle body + manifold.... just a little over for your 3k budget but would give you one hell of a bang for the buck.
