I have owned all the popular shifters, GMM, Billet Pro, and now the MGW-P. MGW-P is by far my favorite. It is a hell of a lot cheaper, and the shifts are smooth and easy. Similar to GMM only a little better. Didn't really like the Billet when I had it, shifts were a chore! Yeah they were short and solid, but took too much effort as opposed to the other two.
Do a search for proxses tuning, or proxses over on ls1gto.com. He modifies and sells the MGW-P! There is a thread on ls1gto regarding the MGW shifter, a lot of positive feedback. Think he has 20+ in GTOs now.

I run just the Lou's short stick. Like a prev. person says, it makes a world of difference, the throws are much shorter, the shifter now tilts towards the driver also, and the shifts feel crisper. Im perfectly happy with mine. for 60 bucks you can't beat it.

And his website is www.proxsestuning.com
He makes each shifter as it is ordered so it takes a couple weeks to get it. I am going to be placing my order probably next month.

I run the b&m and havent had any problems with it and it is a ton better than the factory shifter. I recently drove another Gto that had a stock one in it and was like WTF!?!!! I thought there was something wrong until I remembered I put the b&m in my car haha
