4.10 Gears
Mod list, Vararam Intake, Spintech Catback, hp tuners tune/Bmr Drag Bags, Nitto 555r 245/45/17's, Car is an 05 m6.
PB at Fontana on this setup
60' 1.87
1/8 8.38@84.76
1/4 13.03@105.6
DA 1048' corrected 12.89@106.7
New mods 4.10's, SLP Rear sway bar, everything else the same
PB after 5 runs
60' 1.88
1/8 8.45@82.45
1/4 13.12@106.9
DA 2460 corrected 12.74@110
DA's and corrections were posted from drag times.com. I'm not big on showing the whole corrected thing and i did it as a reference to take the DA out of the comparison. The gain was a little over a tenth and 3.3 mph. I really expected more from the gears. Has anyone else had a similar experience after changing the gears? I'm thinking that GTO's don't respond well to gears like the stangs do and maybe it was a waste of money. These were the Aussie gears which were like 679.00. One of the reasons i did gears instead of headers is that i'm in CA and wanted to stay smog legal.

I saw a guy go to 3.90s and said he could only beat his pb by .08 and was sort of saying the same thing you are. Saying he wasn't sure if the gto responded so well to gears like other cars. He was thinking about going to 3.73s. Can't remember his name tho. But at least you know your not the first. On the other hand those are some pretty good ET's w/o headers lol.

my buddy wanted to take his ms4 outta his goat until he put 3.91's in it. made all the difference in world to get it moving down low. it just sucks they are so expensive. unless they came down since he got his. think they were around 700 with the bearings.

Once you get a cam the gears will make better use of the higher rpm power. With a stock cam your hp & tq falls off up top where the 4.10s are keeping you. When you get a decent 230s cam it will shift the powerband much higher up while being a bit softer down low and the gears will really help keep it up in the higher rpms.

IDK but maybe 4.10s are too much for an M6 GTO. What gear are you trapping in and what is your RPM. I think the stock 3.46 gears are fine for these cars even cammed. Mustangs seem to respond well to gears. I had 4.10s in my mustang. I never ran it at the track with the 3.55s. With 26" tires I trapped in 4th at around 5800 RPMS. With 28" tires I trapped in 3rd at 6500 RPMS.

I used to shift into 4th and then cross the finish line with the stock gears and now i shift into 4th just after the 1/8 mile and am around 5750 5800ish when i cross the line.

Yeah before gears the car put down 355/355 after gears 350/350, i've heard the car will dyno lower after gears. i had 8 passes so i did play with shift points and the fastest et was shifting at 6500. I had the theory of maybe after the gears it lowered my peak torque rpm and shifted at 6 grand and i went a lot slower. I even shifted at 5750 and still went slow.

I just looked up the peak hp for a basically stock GTO and the peak hp is 5200. I thought it was higher. I dynoed my 04 GTO and because of the cams, my peak hp was at 6500. I dynoed 384/350.
