You sound sort of resentful whitt1? I don't care if I'm raceing a pimped out Civic or a $200K Ferrari, at the end of the race win or loose I've never felt the need or desire to treat the other driver like crap and allways give a thumbs up and try and find something positive to say about the other person's ride. Sounds to me like the difference between you and the rest of the folks here is that we're car lovers and like fast cars, whereas you're trying to prove something?

I wasn't really rude to the guy but I did pull into the dealership hehind the guy to talk and he really didn't want to talk about it.The M3 is a nice car,but they don't give out driving skills with the price of admission.A 8000 rpm M3 requires more than just minimum driving skills to get top performance out of it.I dare say that a new GTO with a big advantage in torque is much easier for the average driver to extract it's best performance.

I won't argue with that, wheel-spin and launch aside a broad torque curve does help with consitancy. As for your earlier comment about is this a M3 board or a GTO board, I think it's important to appreciate the competition least you underestimate them. Even though I've driven V8 Firebirds for the last 15 years, I'm not so loyal to GM I wouldn't buy from a German or Japanese manufacturer if they made what I consider to be a better product. The M3 is IMO a better product than the GTO, but it's also $15K more so well it should be. At this point I would be willling to spend $15K more for a M3 over a GTO as I feel the upgrades you get for the money are worth it, I'll have to see what the 2005 GTO has in store with it's rumored new styling and more power to make a final judgement before I get something in the Fall. Right now the top three contendors for me are:

1.) CTS-V
2.) M3
3.) Used 2001+ M5

The GTO is further down the list, but at least it's there, plus the extra savings could go into a new car for my Fiance. Right now in my mind the GTO is vying for position with the G35. The Mustang really isn't on the list at all, but I hope Ford does bring out a decent Cobra... personally I'm not much for all this retro-styling.

Well I came from having 4 fbodies, doing all the suspension mods I can to my last one (coilovers, brembo brakes, recaro seats, power mods) to selling every single last aftermarket part on the car and selling the camaro to get a lancer evolution.

I can tell you that I was an fbody fanatic for the last 5 years, to be dissappointed when GM axed the car.

I was going to decide to buy: RX8, G35, STI, EVO, ... and yes even the GTO. I opted for the EVO and never looked back... and you know what this little japanese boxy looking 4 banger handles like its on rails and has power potential like you wouldn't believe.

My car with just exhaust, cams, and tuning will outrun a z06 (12.2sec quarter mile)... no joke. Total price of mods: $2000 priceless

Add an upgraded turbo ($2500) and I will run in the 11 sec quarter mile.

Oh and yes and don't forget (braking 60-0mph in 106 ft, 600ft slalom at 72mph, skidpad of 0.99g).. yes the car actually turns...

So like Adam Bruce said, some of us are serious car fanatics and yes we do like GM products, I was one of them. But I will not ignore what the rest of the world has to offer and I'm glad I don't because man the EVO is a fun car!

Cheers,

Steve

Default Gto=)

dude GTO vs. M3...don't get me wrong the M3 can handle turns better than an GTO..but with a little work on the GTO i think the GTO can handle the M3.

have you ever priced something for an m3! nice car but not me!

and if you truly believed that the cts-v was a better car you would of bought one. and to say the the gto is inferior to the older f-body is calling the new camero a piece as well, cause it is damn near the same thing as a gto.

i am an american so i will buy american---if you want to give your money to the hitler homeland thats cool too.

I really just noticed the dates i was wondering why all the numbers were so low, and I now see that they were all for 04.

Ah, yeah, it is a contest. I beat one from a 40 roll (2nd gear) thru the top of 3rd. Had a full car on him. He might have beat me from a dig but we didnt get a chance to line em up.

"No contest". I beg to differ. The 333 hp E46 M3 should be slightly stronger than a well driven LS1 GTO 6-spd but not by much. The LS2 GTO is clearly the stronger car on top end. I've seen the races.

Now show me a GTO that run those trap speeds. I know that there is a GTO that trapped 102-103mph which is still not enough to beat an E46 M3. Unless ur truck traps 105-107mph, I just don’t see how u pull on an E46 M3. Are u saying u beat the M3 from a stop or a roll? And if from stop, how long did u guys race? Don’t tell me u got the jump on him until 40-50mph like most trucks say.
A well driven LS1 GTO 6-speed is capable of 105-106 I've seen it done. Still the E46 M3 is still a little stronger than the LS1 GTO but not by much. Yall acting like the E46 M3 would pull on the LS1 GTO like it's nothing.

Raising the bar the LS2 GTO is superior in a straight line. 3rd gear on up it's all LS2!!

Holy grave digging. Thread from 2004!

I've humiliated a couple M3s on the highway, that was when my GTO was completely stock too.

M3 is not that much quicker than an 04 GTO. Throw a DD cam into the GTO and LT headers and you are even on acceleration.

viva 2004 thread!
