Default Full Bolt/Gears GTO

Broke into the 400's WITH 3.91's

-Edelbrock Water Pump w 180* Thermostat
-Vararam w/ Heatshielding and IAT Relocate
-Lethal Performance Ported 90mm Throttle Body
-Untouched FAST 102 Intake Manifold
-Kooks Signature Series Stepped Headers 1-3/4 to 1-7/8
-Catless Mids
-Corsa Sport Exhaust
-Tuned by Shawn @ Lethal Performance
-Motive 3.91 Gears

A crazy improvement from when it was stock 6 months ago. I am extremely pleased with how quick it is and It still gets 25mpg on the highway

I think I'm having driveshaft issues, the car is clunking from a dead stop. Also I'm not sure how much longer the oem clutch will hold with 50K miles and 400whp, so it looks like It's time for a lightweight flywheel, clutch, CF driveshaft, and maybe upgrade the axles and stubs while I'm at it.

Before you put any money into the driveshaft and rear look at the Ford 9" irs center section....forget what company sells them but think they were +$2000. Either way check it out invade you decide to go that way I'd hate to see you drop a bunch of money, then swap tears and hsve to drop more money to replace what you just bought.

Nice numbers

Thanks!

I'm hoping the stock rear end will be good with 400whp, I'm not planning to do anything more power wise. I really just want to upgrade the weak parts of the driveline so that I can beat on it without worrying. Also since I just dropped quite a bit on gears I don't like the thought of just throwing them out the window.

The clunking from a stop might be the lash on the new gears, possibly.
Are the rubber isolators on your factory driveshaft in good condition? that might be another thing to check also.
On my set-up I am running the factory DS and Motive 3.91s. I am wanting to stay with the factory DS as long as possible because I have yet to have any issues with it, and 2nd I think it provides quieter operation than aftermarket performance driveshafts.
My car is a head/cam car, so i think im ok at this point with the factory DS.

Did you notice any added gear noise/ whine when you swapped gears? ( just curious)
--hope this helps.

Yes I did, as did another Motive geared GTO I know of. The shop told me that was normal for the Motives and that everything was set up correctly, They are one of the best shops in town so I'm inclined to believe them

Ok, I was just wondering. I have yet to drive my car with the new Diff as the car is still up on jackstands.
Thank you

I would check the CV joints first, they are notorous for wearing out and you can get clunks with them. Gforce1320 can fix you up with all your drivetrain needs.

Had it up in the air today and I should have checked the axles/stubs but I didn't the driveshaft looked good however.

This really has me stumped
-I get a faint grinding noise when taking off from a dead stop in 2nd
-I get a very low pitched and very faint noise on the highway above 80 mph

My motives whine a bit too but I do have energy subframe bushings that don't help it. Stock gears were louder after putting in the bushings but car hooks much better. Gears are a great mod just the motives just whine a tad....just the way they are cut. With gears you are roughly adding a 15%tq multiplication its noticeable

Have you driven with a lightweight flywheel before? Most stories I have read about people switching to a lightweight, they hated it and moved back to stock weight. Unless your car is a track only car.

Yes I had a 3 series with a lightweight flywheel and 6 puck clutch. The only thing I didn't like was the chatter and I have heard the Spec 3+ is not that bad.

The 3+ doesn't chatter at all if its broken in right. I would't go with a lightweight flywheel these cars are too heavy for them.

Can't wait to see that thing cammed man. You need to seek revenge on the m5!

I was going to say the same thing. I wouldn't get a light weight fly. Too much weight to get moving. I'll also give a caution about Spec on our GTOs. I and quite a few other people had nothing but trouble with a Spec 3+ and the support was non-existent. Mine "lasted" 8,000 miles and I say lasted in that I had it in that long but it didn't work right for a good part of it. A FAST 102 is a lot of money on a stock heads/cam car. Do you have a full picture of your graph?

I'll say this: The FAST102 did much better on the but dyno than the headers. Especially low end.

Dark Blue: Stock
Light Blue: +Intake, exhaust, tune
Red: +all mods in sig
also, don't forget the gears were added in between the light blue and red runs
