okay, so im dead set on a GTO, and as I said earlier, I plan on buying one with around 75k+ seeing as how I plan a top engine build (cam and heads) within a year. I want to know if anyone has a built up goat that is their only car and DD? I drive almost 30 miles each way to work ever day, just curious if anyone is in the same boat as me before I take the plunge on one of these beasts

JMO but I think any "built" car as a DD is a mistake. First of all you're opening it up to more problems and modding implies that you're going to be driving it hard at least occasionally. If one can't afford to have a beater they are probably on the edge of affording the repair on this car to start with. They are not cheap. I can tell you some have done it successfully (and made a high mileage car out of it) and some have had bad results.

How big a risk taker are you? Even good builds go bad. Parts are expensive and rebuilds take time. If it were my DD and I had limited funds and no back up, I'd enjoy my GTO as is.

well im a decent risk taker i guess, before my family issue i had a cammed 06 srt8 charger i had to get rid of that was my DD, and didn't have a problem, but i only put like 20k on it. as far as a build, it would only be a cam i think at first and a few other bolt ons, id end up buying a beater in a bit when I had the extra cash, but that wouldnt be for at least 2 years

I have done a fair amount of modding to my GTO. But I would not have wanted to do that while using it as a daily driver. I've had some experience where the car needed to sit for awhile on jack stands waiting on parts, or had go back to the tuner for some issues to be resolved. It would have been difficult to do it if I had been relying on it as my only transportation.

i sold my built jeep unlimited to purchase an 04 gto with 124k
miles on it. drove it for a few months while parts were on order,
and got it built a few weeks ago. this is my dd, but i do have
funds, shop, and tools to repair / replace anything that may go
wrong within a relatively short amount of time. also have the
wifes g8 gt to drive if i do run into issues. i drive 28 miles round
trip to work and back, 4 - 5 days a week. LOVE driving it around.
one of the most enjoyable cars i've owned.
just be sure to have a back up plan in case anything goes wrong,
so your not stuck out. below link is the build thread over on
ls1gto if your interested.
