Add-on subwoofer for the GTO (stock radio)?

Add-on subwoofer for the GTO (stock radio)?
I am usually pretty good with car audio, particularly with subwoofers. But, the GTO has pretty much challenged me in this department!
First off, trunk space is small to begin with (thanks to the gas tank)! So I figured an Infinity BASSLINK would've been a great add-on subwoofer since it was getting excellent reviews and would only take a corner of the trunk. For some reason I feel that I am not getting enough bass out of it (it's definitely more than stock, just wish it had more "kick" at higher volumes 50-57). I have a 12" Milhouse subwoofer box in my Formula and it slams compared to the GTO.
Another theory I've been reading about is because of that gas tank, not only is the trunk small but it "blocks" the bass from entering into the car.
I was looking into replacing the basslink with something bigger (perhaps an MTX Thunderlink with 2 10" subwoofers). Wondering if that will provide better results (thinking it would mount nicely behind the gas tank facing the trunk, only 6" deep).
Also open to other ideas (not really into those rear-seat subwoofers that replace the rear full-range speakers).
Thanks!

I'm guessing that box won't fit a 12", would it? And are you able to hear and feel the bass pretty good even at higher volume (50+)?

the bass is great , and a hell of alot better than the dual 6.5's in the package tray , and im using a oem 10" pioneer from the cobalt's and it actually sounds 10 time better in this box with a aftermarket amp than it ever did in the cobalts
i think he used to make a 12" box also , he made several different boxes

Awesome! That's what I'm looking for (been googling and checking GTO forums to no avail). Was almost ready to buy one of those dual 10" packages from Pep Boys (includes box, subwoofers, and amp, and cost $100-150), as bass is starting to become more important to me than trunk space.

I added a single Kenwood Excelon 12" shallow mount sub in my trunk. I had it laying around after I sold my truck, originally was behind the seat in my regular cab. I wanted to keep the use of my trunk, so I made a custom fiberglass box.
This was my very first time ever doing fiberglass so its not the most professional looking lol, but once I carpeted it you would never know. Actually turned out pretty good, its air tight and very strong yet lightweight, and had enough volume for the sub. Attached are pics from the process. It wasn't actually that hard. I put down 3 layers. The last pic was taken right when I installed it so its a little dirty, but at least you can see how it looks. Hits nice and clean and pretty hard for only a single, I dont think the gas tank muffles it much at all. And it was a pretty cheap project. Also I have since added a speaker grill to protect the sub since I use my trunk quite often.

Been working on this for a few weeks, and am now finished!
Amp is a JL Audio JX500/1D amp, on a custom amp board I fabricated.
Subwoofer is a JL Audio 12w3v3-2 (installed in billseast's custom trunk enclosure).
And here are the pics!
