I DD my car since it was brand new in 2004. Now it has a 418 in it and I still drive it daily. I could care less that I get 10-12 MPG as my buddy with his nice big *** pickup truck gets the same damn thing. Only difference is, I can blow his doors off. LOL. You never know how hard a used car was driven by the previous owner, but seeing I am on my 3rd Tranny, 2nd engine and about 20 sets of tires, maybe I am not the person to get info from. LOL. I say go for it..replace the front and rears, springs/shocks a few bushings and you should be good to go. Maybe a rear diff flush and enjoy.

I've had both an LS2 (06 bought new) and an LS1 (still have) GTO that were/are daily driven and as long as you keep them maintained and don't abuse them, they are just as good of a car as anything else out there, if not better in many ways. They have a few items that will probably need to be addressed, such as radius rod bushings, sagging rear springs (my 04 still hasn't though oddly enough but my 06 did) and plastic radiator ends cracking. Otherwise, no real problems with either one with a collective 90k miles between them in all sorts of conditions. I only had manuals though, but my mpg is in the upper 20's to low 30's on the highway and mid to upper teens in the city...no complaints here for the fun factor of the engine when you want it.

It will need full suspension.
2004 brakes are too small for the car.
Pinion seal probably leaks.
Radio buttons probably don't work right.
Handbrake is probably broken.
Driveshaft could be bad.
Trunk lid release could break.
Leather seats tear if not maintained.

If you are going to get an auto just get an 05-06, more fun and probably just as terrible mpg.

I used to daily mine when i had a company gas card lol wouldnt do it any other way.

I dailied a C6 vette for about a year, much better on gas suprisingly, but i recently picked up a 5 speed civic hybrid and havent went back since. the money it saves me makes me much happier then driving a vette and interior quality is superior even thought the car has double the miles and is 5 years older sadly.

Been driving my modded 06 for years 430+RWHP(daily driver camshaft). she pulls 18-19 avg. If your going to get one I suggest the 05-06 car. With the snow tires on it I pass suv's in 6" of snow it drives great.

I daily drive a 05 full-bolt on car. Manual gets between 21-23 MPG if you drive nice.

Good car overall.

Largest disadvantage is body parts. DONT GET HIT. Parts are hard to come by and insurance will most likely total the car for even a fender bender.

Engine and tranny are obviously easy to come by.

Best of luck!

i drive all day at work and i still enjoy shifting.

I've been driving mine in Italy for majority of the time that I have owned it. Long story short, I wouldn't trade it for the world. Ok,well maybe a P1 but that's a different story.

The GTO is a good daily driver. I have an 05 m6, nice comfortable car. Totally sucks in the snow, fun in the rain if you like to drive sideways. Radius rod bushings, strut bearings/bushings are common problems that are easily solved with aftermarket parts. Not too bad of a car to work on but some parts are expensive. Auto trans either break easy or survive abuse, seen it both ways. Manual cars have a good bit of high speed oversteer if you drive it hard. Overall a decent car.

I've put about 10k miles on my 06 GTO and I can say it is a far better DD than my previous BMW 535! It has much more comfortable seats and I have not had any maintenance on it other than fluid changes and tires. Plus gas mileage is only a couple mpg less.
