Default Gto driveshaft..u-joint questions

Im thinking about trading my trans am for an 04 gto. the guy said the only thing wrong with it is a slight vibration at higher speeds from a bad u-joint. Ive been doing some research and keep hearing about the u-joints not being able to be replaced in the driveshaft?? I just cant find any clear info. I see that the gto has a 2 piece shaft and some sort of rubber couplers. I found places that sell the couplers, but im wondering if theres a u-joint in the middle of the 2 piece shaft? If so- is that replaceable? I just want to find out all i can before the trade- I dont want to get the car then find out i have to replace the entire drive shaft

There are rubber couplers at either end and there is a single u-joint in the middle by the carrier bearing. As far as I know the u-joint cannot be replaced. The only fix would be to replace the driveshaft with a good stocker or an improved aftermarket unit.

you can find a lot of alternatives for the bad carrier bearing. most go to a 1pc unit from gForce or DSS. both have bolt-in options for less than 650. they both also give a forum discount for users of ls1gto.com

I have a perfectly good stock DS off my 05. I switched to a Carbon 1 pc from GForce. My stock DS only has 35k miles on it. Let me know if I can be of any help.
