...When? You think they will wait until the redesign to put in an LS2, or are they going to be putting it in next year or the year after? Just curious as it looks like the LS1 days in production are numbered.

I'm inclined to believe it will be next year. One of the GM publications hinted to that affect, and a couple of people with supposed inside information on GTO sites have stated the same.

Out of curiousity, what do you mean by 'the car isn't certified for an LS2?'.
There has been confirmed test mules down under w/ LHD labelling and the LS2 engine in them...

How much different is the LS2 from the LS1/LS6 really?
It seems very strange to me they would bother to redo the car's electronics to accomodate a new engine when it's going to be replaced in two years.

The LS2 is going in the vette and a variant in the trucks, I think it would be a natural decision to put it in the GTO next year. Their are no issues with certifing the vehicle.
In GM history way I think it would be 2006 for the LS2 vette engine in the GTO. I don't really care what they do, i'm satisfied with the car as is.

I kind of have a feeling that GM doesn't mind giving the LS6 to the CTS-V and the LS1 rated at 350 in the GTO is that GM is gonna give them "Corvette Leftovers". I doubt an LS2 will go into a GTO before 2006.
1. Probably new motor mounts, new electronics, new transmission (no 4L60e for the LS2, about time they moved on).
2. They just started building the American version of the GTO, GM isn't gonna put a new engine in it midway into production, it is just gonna slow down production and the LS1 run of the GTO would be made unprofitable by the retooling costs.
3. GM was developing the LS2 long before the idea of the GTO sprouted. If they were gonna put an LS2 in it in it's first (modern) generation they would have waited to put the LS2 in it, no use putting in a motor that has about a year left in production. It's like if GM slapped the new 3.9 liter in the Grand Prix next year after they just redesigned it. It would take too long to configure the Grand Prix powertrain setup for that in a car already configured, and built with the 3.8 liter in mind.

No hard facts, but I read an article online somewhere that the '05 GTO will in fact have the LS2. FWIW, GMHTP says the same thing. Is supposed to be rated lower than the C6. But the f-bod was rated lower than the C5, and we know the deal with that one. I doubt the ls2 will cause the price to raise much. It will just make it faster.
