Default 3.91 Gear Swap Results

Went to the track yesterday D.A was between 1400 and 1900 in the afternoon. Car weighed 3705lb w/driver and 1/4 tank ( LS2 , HCI, M6 )

Best MPH with 3.46 gears 1/8th mile : 94.5 mph
1/4 mile : 119 mph

Best MPH with 3.91 gears 1/8th mile : 93.9 mph
1/4 mile : 121.3 mph

I didn't get my 60ft sorted out before eliminations so I left everything as is and dialed for the spin!
Personal best E.t with 3.46 gears was 11.64 @ 118 w/ 1.70 60ft and -54 D.A

Best E.T W/ 3.91 gears was 11.88 @ 121 w/ 1.96 60ft and 1600 ft DA

All in all i'm glad I did the swap . I think it's fun on the street and makes the car easier to drive in traffic (HCI LS2 M6 )

once you get traction itll run low 11s or high 10s i think.

i considered gears until i saw how much they were lol.

what did you take out to get down to 3700? thats light for a GTO with a driver.

The wheels and tires save a ton. It has an aluminum skid plate , tow brace delete ,no jack spare tire floor matts or trunk carpet. Carbon driveshaft , no catalytic converters.

3.91 definately get the car moving, but lots of guys are choosing 3.73 as of late. Traffic and uphill is easier with 3.91.. lots of street chores fit that.

What parts did you pick for your rebuild?

No rebuild .I put in a solid spacer instead of the sleeve ,set the preload and then checked the pattern .
It's quieter than my stock diff so i'll run it till it shows signs of needing something more then i'll be bugging you again...haha

Oh, good. You made your own spacer? Nothing wrong with good used parts.

Thank you for posting this! Were there no other changes to the motor or chassis? Just gears?

And what is your rear wheel and tire setup?

Trapping 120+ SBE in that DA is MOVING! Sounds like the 3.91s definitely woke up your back half game in the 1/4.

I miss my 3.46s a lot but I needed the extra oomph in 3rd-5th. I can barely low speed drive the car with 3.91s so I have no clue how I managed for so many years with the longer 3.46s (meaning parking lot crap below 10mph or traffic). Gears definitely make the cammed car more liveable.

Nice! How do the Hoosiers feel going down the track? My 26x11.50 MT ET Street bias plies on 16x8s were wanderers...

Need me some fresh skinnies up front...
