It's all about what your intentions are. Someone like JCR Chassisworks can supply things that will let you take it to the extreme if you want to make a drag only setup. Me, I prefer to stay street strip but all options are available pretty much.

Lol. This thread.

mod parts for a GTO are not cheap. Way cheaper options out there. Their production numbers keep the aftermarket kind of expensive. GTO's are way less common to see at the track than say a 5.0 or a camaro. Depends on if you want to fork out the dough to be different.

Depends on budget. LS2 GTO is not bad if you're willing to spend more money to become faster. If you want faster cheaper grab an Fbody. I personally would rather build a GTO, and spend a little extra cash.
A lot heavier, IRS, Parts are more expensive, and obviously the car will be a little more then an fbody(usually)

If it's unmodded I would say no simply due to wheel hop at the track.

You can fix the wheel hop with anti wheel hop axles. You can also fab or buy a 9 inch diff. Granted it's cheaper to just do a 5.0 or what not, but every other car at the track is a 5.0. Lol. I have a gto and although cheaper to build up something else, I like the fact that I am usually the only gto at the track and when you do get that heavy *** car down the track with some good numbers it feels good.

Your opinion counts so no 1 sentence comments please.
Stock ones should generally pull in more of an asking price. Yes the market value of aftermarket parts might be worth more but it is easier and more worth it to yourself to start from a platform you are familiar with history wise. I bought my car for $17K back in the day and it was my daily driver. It had an exhaust from the previous owner and that was it. I slowly got a hold of too much time on the internet and turned it into something great. I want to say that because I am so familiar with this platform now that $10K seem s like a good place to start. You'll probably end up replacing all the bad parts on it that wear out from mileage so if it's stock or broken it's okay. PFA

The first response to your question was Slicks honest opinion, I agree, a $10k GTO is probably "Well used" and will need many more thousands of $ to make it a decent track car unless you are just wanting to buy something to beat on.

Lose the attitude and provide a little more on what your plans for the car are besides "racing platform".
What more would you expect from a FWD Monte Carlo driver. Must be a REAL car enthusiast.

Damn, she looks good. Ive got plans to build a 402 out of a lq4 and run twins. Also probably switching from m6 to 4l80e. Going to be a while, I buy parts and just put them on the shelf until I have everything.

any track times?
