I agree. Who in the heck makes these questionable styling decisions? It must be the attitude of "we have to be able to make it look better, later" or we won't have room for improvements. Give 'em the bigger engine now and we'll make the body (rear fascia, especially IMHO) better later. I think you can chalk alot of stuff up to "marketing". Always leave room for improvements. In this case, one more year after the 05. Oh, well, if you waited for the next big improvement, you'd never buy anything.

They're trying to address everyone's complaints with the 2004. The bumper in Nineball's photo is the Autocross rear bumper Pontiac will be selling this fall. What's interesting though is the 2005 rear bumper is very close to what the Monaro was supposed to originally have when it was concieved.

I'm afraid of what GM might do when redesign time comes around for the GTO. The 2004 GTO is a handsome car, moaning from morons not withstanding, it's much better than the majority of tacky kid's stuff GM has been putting out as Pontiacs for the last 20 years.

I hope they don't go overboard in 2007, they could take a few notes from Chrysler on doing modern throwback styling right when the resurrected Charger comes out next year.

I agree... the car is VERY handsome and sleek. Maybe understated, but still what I like. Much like the original in that sense. Why can't everyone figure that out.... oh yeah, b/c they're too busy whining that its a Firebird replacement and doesn't look like the firebird. Too bad, that's not what the GTO is, and never was

Technically, the bumper in Nineball's photo is production since you can order 2005 GTOs with it.

Why? So we can't get out in tight parking spaces? So it sags from the hinges in a year from all the weight? Not to mention that large rear window is handy for side visibility in lane changes.

No matter how you adjust mirrors, you will always have a side blind spot to some degree or another. I glance out the rear windows in my vehicles to see whats to the side of me, the GTO test drives are no different.

I would also prefer my cabin to remain airy with large windows, and less cavelike which is something I don't like about the tiny rear windows in my Grand National.

Here's what a little set of headers, CAI and tuning did to my wee little 346.

This is a flat torque curve!
