Default 10.50 Bmr Gto

We finally made it back to the track this past weekend and got the car down to 10.50@129mph. We made 3 passes that day, a 10.56, 10.54, and a 10.50. This was on a 275/40R17 BFG Drag Radial and stock wheels. Our ultimate goal is to be a member of the single digit club but we are fighting a race weight of 4120 lbs We really want to do it on radials to and I think if we can get a 1.45 60 ft. out of it and squeeze another 50hp of juice, we just might make it there.
Here is the VIDEO

Pretty damned amazing. Did you do any internal work or just replace the blown head gasket?

It now has an iron block 408 with much better internals. Turns out the blown head gasket was actually a hole in a piston

We have been looking into a weight reduction but this car is baffling. After speaking with a few race teams, it seems that a lot of the weight is in the insulation and sound deadening, as much as 130 lbs! The factory K-member actually weighs less than an F-body k-member. The most we could save with a tubular version is 20 lbs. tops. A lot of other extra weight is in the independent rear suspension and heavier gauge (than American cars) floorpan and frame material.
Basically to get this car down to something like F-body weight you would have to lose the interior and air conditioning. We plan to get some lightweight race wheels and possibly build a tubular K-member but we don't plan to strip the car down, it's still completely streetable at this point.
4120 was with driver, the car weighs 3970. The added weight can be attributed to subframe connectors, rollbar, two 25 lb NOS bottles, and the iron block which adds another 80 lbs. by itself. Most GTO's weigh around 3750 stock.

oh ok I was about to say. I did not relize you had the Iron block in it now. Why did you go with the iron block Just wondering I mean was it not heavy enough for ya lol. would the C5R block not be better or was it not worth it for you guys to waste the money on one of them? oh and what did you up the nitrous shot to now?

Any problems with the rear diff yet or did that get swapped out a while back?

Yeah, we didn't really want to add more weight but we wanted something sturdy and $750 vs. $7K for a block just justified the extra 80 lbs. We had the nitrous on the old motor jetted to 200 additional HP based on the chassis dyno results. We haven't dyno'd it since but we went up a jet size with the new motor so it's probably somewhere around 230-250 now. We can actually go all the way up to 400 HP jets if we ever need to but would probably add another stage instead.

The diff itself puked the posi a while back. We now have a spool in it just so we could continue to race until the Diff Technics 9" IRS comes in. Hopefully when that's installed along with some new Mickey Thompson Drag Radials we can leave the line on some nitrous and get our 60 ft down into the 1.40's. That alone could get us into the low 10's, then just a little more juice and single digits

Nice run on the track. I was looking at the sig, and you mention a BMR swaybar, but I did not see it on your website. I need to cure some understeer issues with my GTO on the road courses (you know, when you use the steering wheel to KEEP the car from going straight)

Is the bar still available?

Also, what happened to your stock GTO wheels? I'd be interested in them if ya wanna sell em..PM me on that.

Thanks..

The swaybar we are using is a chrome moly adjustable drag style prototype that we are testing. While it has helped with understeer, it was primarily built to help "tune" our launch at the track. The rod ends used for this type of bar are not recommended for a daily driven car so we probably won't be duplicating the bar. Later we may make larger diameter factory style bars, it just depends on the market demand.

We will probably be keeping the wheels for reselling purposes, sorry.

I'd love more rear bar for the road course. Did you fab your own bar (gee where would you guys find fab tools) or mod an off the shelf unit to fit. I am not worried about the rod ends, I was thinking of going that route for the front bar to aid in steering response. I can fab some of my own stuff, so modifying your prototype bar with a urethane endlink is not a problem. I just can't do much bending, as I currently only have a bending shoe for a 1.5" bar.

Oh, and while you guys are fabbing stuff, camber plates would be nice too

Didn't hurt to ask about the wheels though..
