Default 2005?

im looking at getting a GTO in january or febuary should i get a 04 or 05 wich do you think are better and any additional info on the 05 would be appreciated

'05 will have a bigger, faster engine. '05 will also have some appearance options.

'04 will be a lot cheaper.


I'm getting an '05 in Feb/March.

Default the waiting game

I am trying to wait for more on 05 pricing - harder now that I have driven the 04! I am keep worrying that I will wait too long and won't be able to find the car I want....Hopefully there will still be plenty of cars with even lower prices if the dealers play tricks with the 05's or if the 04's are gone hopefully the 05's will go below msrp (<34k)! Optimistic, ain't I!

I was gonna wait for the 05 but I paid just under 25K for my 04. So I figured buy the 04 mod it a bit. Then wait for GM to work out the quirks on the LS2 and get the 07 Kappa GTO or Chevelle - My reasoning is I am waiting for the "American" release of the GTO in 07 to get really serious about spending big $$ on the GTO... 25K for a 04 is a great deal that I could not pass up.

So if $$ are any issue go look at the 04 cause I would not expect the 05 to have any real rebates for a while.

You'll be able to get a 2005 GTO in February or March of 2005 with the LS2 engine (400 horsepower), dual exhaust with the tips apart so the car looks symmetrical from behind, air intake holes in the hood, and a higher price tag.

LS2 powered GTO as seen at SEMA


The 05's get slightly larger, upgraded brakes. The LS2 from the C6. Revised rear facia with split dual exhaust. The exhaust itself is different from the engine back and has an even more muscular sound now (so i'm told). It has a slightly higher redline. No doubt most if not all of the quirks in the 04's have been ironed out. Hood scoops and hood scoop delete option for those who dislike them. And a few other things I cant think of off hand.

Interesting, the data sheet shows the 05 GTO in Cyclone Grey can get the black or blue interior. The dealer i'm working with said black only. I hope after I email them this link it will open up the option to get it with blue since solid black would be real hot.

Now that I've seen the blue leather, black with blue would be really sweet.
Oh, and buying in Jan or Feb, I'm not sure you'll be able to find exactly the colors you want for an '04 - may require a bit of searching. Also, I'm guessing w/ the deals you can get on an '04, you can have a faster car for the same $$$ w/ some mods as the '05 stock.
'04 brakes are fine for street driving - but would need an upgrade if you were going to do much autoX or road racing. If that, an ugly hood or silly 'symmetrical' exhaust outlets (not true dual anymore, BTW - pictures show a single 'crossover' resonator) matters - then get an '05.

Heh well i'm not really going to argue the 'true duals' thing, since your right... Both exhaust pipes DO merge into a single resonator with dual inlets and outlets of equil size as the entering exhaust pipe. Personaly, I could care less HOW they do it, so long as it SOUNDS good and makes rabid amounts of horsepower.

The hood is for some a selling point and for others, luckly an option you can have deleted. (and get the 'plain' hood like 04's have)
