Default Home made intake tube?

Has anybody done a home made cold air kit?

I completely took apart the intake setup on my GTO and to be honest found the factory airbox to be designed very well. It completely draws cool air in, and is pretty much sealed from the engine compartment. The main restriction I found was the factory tube from the TB to the MAF. If you look inside this sucker, it really necks down, to a much smaller oval shape. I have already ordered a 90 deg 4inch to 4inch rubber hose and a 4inch diameter aluminum tube and a 4 inch to 3.5 inch hump hose. I think I will just leave the factory airbox alone for awhile. I am also currious about getting some offroad mid-pipes, basically using the stock manifolds and stock catback, just eliminating the cats. Does somebody make these?

See pictures below for the intake stuff.
BTW........I got less than $50 in the stuff below including shipping.
