Default Dead Gto

today i went to the local GM dealer to test drive an 04 gto and it wouldnt start. he said it did it before and he just tightened the gas cap and it started, but that didn't work. i'm thitnking it's a clutch sensor or something. it pissed me off. i really wanted to drive it. anybody else seen this happen to a car with 6k miles on it.

Tightened the gas cap and it started? That doesn't make much sense. Yes, the Evap system self-test will set a code (system leak) if the cap is left loose, but I've never heard of a loose cap not allowing the starter to turn! I think that guy's just pulling your leg. Like you thought, it's probably the clutch switch, bad battery connection, etc.

I wonder if perhaps the key wasnt properly programmed to the car. As I understand it, you can cut a key to match the factory one but if it is not programmed to the car, it will not allow the car to start.

I got a spare key made at a Pontiac dealer for a 2001 Grand Prix and it wouldn`t start because it wasn`t properly programmed. It only took about 2min to fix though.
