Default Head And Cam Package Or S/c

Feedback needed! Sorry if this is a repeat question I want to take the big step with mods. Should I save a little money and go with a head/cam package? SLP has their Stage 3 priced around $2600 and I have a performance shop that would install and dyno for around $800. However, it seems I see more S/C upgrades than heads/cam packages. Plus, I'm going to spend around $6000 with install for the s/c. The way I look at it I could save the extra money for some other smaller upgrades and still kick *** on the street by going with the head/cams. Also, just wondering about the sound. I don't want to hate driving it. As you can see I have LTS and a LM so its pretty loud right now. Sorry for the long msg. Thanks in advance.

heads/cam is fine, but dont go with SLP, go with someone with better results, i would suggest TSP or PRC or someone along those lines if your going with a package... Futural has great cams, if you went with a f13 or 14 and some AFR heads, you would see some major gains, price is a little more for the heads, but alot more power. those are the 2 big names of cam/heads right now, futural and AFR.

I was wrestling with the same ideas last week...I decided to go with the S/C for now, and here's why. I'm in California and I wanted to retain street legality. I could do an emissions legal cam and AFR legal heads but since I can't do the exhaust legally, I didn't see the point. So I ordered up the S/C, a torque converter from Fuddle Racing, and a TransGo shift kit, and I'll get those all installed and tuned up real nice.

I'd like eventually to do the AFR 205cc heads with the bigger chambers to lower the compression a bit, a nice, legalish blower cam, shorties, RT cats and a catback to help her out some more. Maybe long down the line really beef it up and crank the boost.

Price it out.

using SLP products just as an example.

Heads and cam - 2600
Headers - 1300
Catback - 600
Install - 400 (if you do some of the work yourself)
Tune - 420
Total - 5320

this will probably get you right around 390 to 420 at the wheels depending how streetable a cam you get. Chences are at that power level you will be able to save for awhile to get a better clutch. Since you would be doing that anyway with supercharger also, leave it out of the comparison.

Super charger (Procharger)
5400 will give you around 420 at the wheels with bone stock everything else
Plus the bling factor

If you want more power than headers, cat back add another 1900 plus a new tune
now your rear end is in trouble, so Strange rear 1500

now you really want more (you f'in adict you...) so, Heads, bigger head unit, now you really need to upgrade your fuel pump and maybe replace the procharger injectors again.

But now the engine itself may become a concern, so you have to upgrade that as well.

What do you really want from the car? I'll be happy when I get close to 400 hp. But I prefer the twisties so I probably dump a bunch into trying different suspension combos.

More like 444rwhp on a Mustang dyno w/ D1SC running 90* temps through stock manifolds no tricks.

Strange doesn't make any parts for GTO rear end BTW You can get driveline parts through BMR driveshaft, axles, stub axles. KAAZ does make a posi. Diff Technics in australia supplies gears for GTO and their own custom built diff case using ford 9" internal parts. However its alot more then $1500.

Well if that is your final goal I would do h/c first. Go with a blower friendly cam, say Comp Cams 224-230/ 114 lsa. Also get good heads AFR, TEA,MTI just not SLP (not the best engine parts from them). The better valves/springs will be better for FI, just dont go too small on the comustion chamber( less then 10.5CR). Your car will make around 400rwhp for now and later will handle 7-8lbs of boost for 525-550 rwhp.

My GTO is cammed and procharged and I make 551rwhp with room left to make more, but I like the nice conservative tune I am running now. The car rips hard!

So if you ask me I say cam and Procharger! It is well worth it, I love my setup!

Thats good power in a GTO, how does the susp+ drivetrain handle that much power?Your from Tampa aren`t you?

Yes Tampa and Jax actually. Suspension actually holds it pretty well. Drivetrain is next on my list. But first I am getting my GMM ripshift, followed by an Aluminum driveshaft from BMR.
