So last weekend was my first "outing" in the Goat (not counting commuting). It's a positively amazing phenomenon! Everywhere I went with it, people were (literally, in one case) falling all over themselves to get a look at it. Of the 10-odd people who actually asked me about it, only two actually knew what it was (amazing how many people can't read the three letters on the grille). And the comments were universally approving! I had a serious SEG all weekend - I NEVER got this much attention in the Z28.

Bonus: the PoPo's just casually glance at me like any other Grand Am drivin' by...

GTO? What GTO? It's just a REALLY BIG Cavalier with a lot more muscle, right?

Naw, it attacts no attention at all from the local constables...the 'vette on the other hand, ahhhh, weeelllll, 'bout that, see there was this one time where....ah....OK, let's just say I think they LOOK for that car....

The only time I had UNWANTED attention was after the FAST 90/90 install. The damn throttle body hangs before going to idle. A cop got behind me when the throttle hung at 4krpm, and followed me almost all the way home while I tried to rid myself of the unwanted "cruise control". The entire time I was afraid that he would notice that the only sound control I have between my exhaust valves and the tips is a turbocharger. BTW, I wish sts would come up with some sort of bullet muffler to cut down highway drone. It wasn't bad until I removed the resonators and cats, but now it's sort of obnoxious.

Mine is yellow with flames and chrome wheels...yes I get noticed. During the first few months I owned it when it was completly stock I got 2 speeding tickets driving it the same way I drive my Hyundai beater car. Now I am always below the speed limit unless I know it is safe.

Here in Sacramento, cops don't usually bother the general muscle car crowd. They are polite and will only mess with you if you do some thing stupid. Thats the truth.

If you drive an import with any exterior mods, your screwed. I see an import getting towed every night on the weekends...

But things were backwards, my Lumina got more looks then when I had my Z28 with a very good sounding flowmaster and a lead foot.

I also have a retired GP pace car with the strobes stickers covering the entire car. Cops could care less.

I didn't have an F-body beforehand but I can tell you this, cops do not even give me a second look in my car. I ran with no mufflers for a couple of days and many a time drove right past a cop with no problem. Once I took the car up to 70MPH WOT in an industrial park, I didn't look good enough and there was a cop sitting in a parking lot running radar, he didn't even look at me as I drove by. I got my car slightly sideways around a turn and low and behold a sheriff was there and he just drove right by, did give me a look but didn't pull me over. Somehow I think that if I were in an F-Body or Mustang I would have been pulled over.

I was randomly followed halfway home by a cop last night....I saw him sitting on the side of the road, he pulled out behind me, got right on my bumper and stayed there for about 2-3 miles. I drove 3 or 4 mph over the speed limit and kept the revs down and he eventually turned off....

weird though, I wasn't doing ANYTHING....

I was doing 110 in my old 95' Trans Am (sold in favor of a faster car )(pacing an Escort of all things, I never knew they went that fast, was curious how fast he was going when he blew by me) The TX State Trooper pulled him over instead of me So dont go thinking the F-bod crowd gets all the bad luck now.

Ya i almost wish i got attention instead of jealous people. I have had my 05 hood smashed in, keyed, about 100 door dings, a kid was drunk smashed into it on a drive way and i was the car closest to the house, got food throwen all over it about 20 times. This is what happens i guess when u have a GTO with long tubs and its red. Also i have a hot GF. But if u have a red GTO do not park it in Naperville IL because i found out from the police that someone hates someone with a red GTO because they said two other GTOs have had the same problems that are red. O ya and the police in Naperivelle i think hate them as well because i got 10 parking tickets because my car was on the street to long. Its a 3 hour limit class is hour and 15 mins then i went to work. So someone pissed the cops of in Naperville and the people.

I've had my 05 for 14 months and never got any particular notice from Law Enforcement.

I have noticed a subtle change in the type of attention it gets from others though. For the first few months, I only got curious looks from other gearheads. I still get attention from them; but the looks seem to be less curious and more respectful now.

I honestly believe that more and more people are starting to accept the car for what it is rather than bashing it for no good reason.

I agree, when I got the GTO people would check out the car to figure out what it was. Now I get a good # of compliments on the car even at the dragstrip from longtime racers. It seems like more and more people like the new GTO.
