Default ls2 gto basic boltons

ok my buddy just picked up a left over 05 GTO ls2 black on black 6 speed. i know hes gonna wanna start modding it soon. so i just wanna make sure i know what the easiest and best things to do with this car are. im assuming some kinda lid and catback are the two biggest hp gain and easiest mods that he can do just like a traditional LS-1 car. but are there anythings that are LS2 or GTO specific that will really give hima nice little HP boost but nothign so extreme that it voids the warrenty. and No NITROUS! hes toally against that.

I heard catbacks only give you like 5hp in the LS2. Personally I'd do CAI, LT's, and a tune but thats just me.

I agree, do some LT's, CAI, tune and I would just swap the mufflers out if he is not wanting to spend a lot of money. The GTO's already have duals on them, the bending is not too bad and only have two crimps in the tubing so spending $700 on a catback for around 5RWHP is really not worth it.

As stated above, CAI, LT's, and tune are good way to go with the 05 GTO. Since we already have a pretty nice 2.5" true dual setup there isn't much to be gained there unless you're doing some pretty serious mods. In my case, I just swapped a Magnaflo X-pipe in place of the OEM resonator and replaced the OEM mufflers with Dynomax. Looks like ported LS2 intakes are showing some gains too, but I have no experience with it so I can't really comment.

If you are considering non-engine mods then a new shifter (if its M6) and some suspension work IMO are a must...

I highly recommend the Volant CAI with Kooks or Stainless Works headers. With a little tuning the car will be a night and day difference.

For the 04 I like the Lingenfelter CAI. Nice box and uses silicone tubing to keep heat out.

I would scratch the cai and just port the stock box and put a K&N replacement filter in there-otherwise an UD pulley,cat-back and a good tune is all you need. I did the above mentioned along with pulling my maf screen and put down 370 to the tires(I did the tuning myself with another forum member using HPT).

Cat-back: $650
SLP UD pulley: $300 (with 2 new belts and a new crank bolt)
K&N drop in air filter: $39
Going in on HPT with buddy: Priceless..just kidding $250
Pulling maf screen: FREE

outcome: 370 RWHP!
