These are my favorite threads. People telling someone to get a cat back for a car that already has 2.5" true dual exhaust. Son, you have an excellent exhaust system on your car. If you are going to spend your money, be sure its spent on things that will improve the performance of your car. Dont waste money on a cat back...save the cash for a good set of Stainless Works or Kooks long tubes and then forget it and move on to other things. If you want to change the sound more dramatically, then simply swap mufflers. Typically, Lt's will net you about 25hp. Other bolt ons: CAI. Can gain you a couple hp.
Underdrive pulley. Maybe 5-7hp. Personally, the best money spent is on a good dyno tune. It makes the most of any modification.

Completeexhaust will sell that magnaflow catback for $599, I just e-mail Joe and that is what he sells them for.

Bt just like what Five-O just said, it had a good flowing exhaust on it already. the sound would just change with a cat-back. the Z06 Corvette's are the same way, they have extreamly good flowing stock exhaust whoch is why most people dont swap out to a cat-back.

I say Kooks headers, tune, CAI and a cam and you will prolly stay under $3000 for eveything and be over 400rwhp too!

Magna Flow catback does help. You also get rid of alot of weight when removing the stock exhaust especially the mufflers( those things are huge ). There isn't much diffrence in sound at idle but when you open it up it does sound better.

My Mods and thoughts:

Honestly you need to take your time and watch the classifieds. You can get killer deals, on barely used parts that will make your car haul ***, and keep your wallet happy. For example, you really don't need a whole new catback. Just replace your mufflers. My car would be an example of a budget build. I bet it would be close to 500crank hp, and i did it on the cheap. Tests have shown that the stock Air Box on the GTO is pretty much as good as an CAI, once it's gutted and you toss in a K&N Filter. Granted, eventually I'll put a CAI in there, but I'll have to find that RIGHT deal before I do it.

Removed Resonator and had flowmaster super 40's welded in place of stock mufflers, still using stock tips. - $200 = Total Spent - $200
Gutted stock air box - $0 = Total Spent - $200
K&N Filter for stock box - $40 = Total Spent - $240
SLP 160* T-Stat - $16 = Total Spent - $256
MSD Wires - $60 = Total Spent - $316
Stainless Works Long Tube Headers -$800 (barely used) = Total Spent - $1116
Sold Cats from LT Headers Regained $300 = Total Spent - $816
HP Tuners for '05 GTO $300 = Total Spent - $1116
Comp Cams 228/230 .571/.573 112LSA Cam - $225 (barely used) = Total Spent - $1341
Comp Cams 7.400 Cromoly Pushrods - $90 (barely used) = Total Spent - $1431
Comp Cams 918 Springs $50 (barely used) = Total Spent - $1481
Labor For Headers - $100
Labor For Cam install - $200
My case has other factors like my engine going, but had it not gone, this is realistically what all my upgrades costed me.

$1781

BS. Its a restriction, get rid of it. Your tuner can re-cal the MAF. You will have no issues.

FastPacedGTO makes a very good point and is a shining example of what can be accomplished if your patient. The classifieds can be your best friend to find deals on stuff you want. Just research your seller and make sure not get get ripped off. Most of the time if you ask for the sellers address and phone # and they give it up without question they are good sellers. That is what I always do and use Paypal as well cause most scumbags arent smart enough to send you a box and type the tracking # into it as a shipped package.
