A4 vs M6

A4 vs M6
I'm looking into buying a 04 GTO in the future.
Is there a big difference in the 1/4 mile time between a4 and m6, i don't want to get an a4 if its like 1/4 sec slower than manual like on some cars?
I really just need a nice car to use as a DD and my GTP isn't cuttin it anymore haha

This question has been asked for the millionth time and there's actually a similar post on this same page as of 4/21/07, 12:00 PM. You can probably do a search for more info in this message board or in ls1gto.com. However, me and a few others will be nice enough to chime in and give you the facts and/or opinions anyway.
I always thought that the 6-speed cars were quicker, but I was corrected when a member did say something like,
"Well, if you did more research, then you'll see that the A4's are actually quicker in the quarter mile than the 6-speeds..."
So, maybe the A4's are quicker, but I always wondered why Pontiac even offered the option on such a heavy high performance car.

The 04 6m is quicker to 60 and the 1/4 by .1 according to the mag tests. Not enough to make a big difference on the street.(Drivers' race) However, from what I've read on posts and in mags, the a4 is riddled with more torque management than the m6 so a tune of some sort would be highly recomended.

I had an A4 Z28 for like 7 years and regretted not buying a 6 speed all the time. I def wanted a 6 speed GTO when I went looking, I just think its a lot more fun to drive. You should just test drive both and see which on you like more

hey guys don't post much, but i have to agree with the autos are faster, but only modified!!!. I have been to several tracks: Atco, Englishtown, and Cecil County. As i watch the 05-06 run, the autos seem to run mid 13s 105-107. The auto 04s bone stock seen to run 14.1s-13.8s. The M6, 05-06 seem to run a little faster with good drivers. I can't speak for the M6 04s, because i haven't seen them run. I ran 12.7 at 109, with Drs only. I have heard of some freek autos running 12.9-13.2s. Modified is a total different game. I am putting 440rwhp with a HPE-s cam, ARH headers, pullies, and a tune. So far my best run has been 12.4 at 114, with a 2.1 60, this is without Drs. I know with good tires i will run 11.8-12.0. If i had an auto with a converter, I would be deep in the 11s. The Autos with mods are fantastic. With that said, I just love holding each gear and listening to the sound of the engine. Also, e-way driving is a blast, because I can select the wright gear and be in my power range. I had a 97 TA with a Stall, with Nitrous and it was very consistant and fun, but it still does not compare to a stick.
PS: I am not talking bad about the Autos, GM has made a great Automatic, I am only stating my own opinion.
